So who's looking forward to Skyrim and why? And I'm sure that Staff will want this to count as THE Skyrim thread when it comes out so once it's out what are your thoughts on it? I just recently got Oblivion and have been playing it and it's pretty kool, I like it so far and I'm pretty sure I want Skyrim. So since I'm thinking of getting Skyrim I'm not sure if I want to go ahead and run through Oblivion first (which I realize will take me a long time) and then get Skyrim or if I want to just go ahead and get Skyrim and play through that [since it's not actually a direct sequel to Oblivion I shouldn't really be adversely affected by not playing Oblivion first] and then maybe one day go back and finish Oblivion, lol. What are other's thoughts?

I don't hate Oblivion but now that I've played a little longer and done some reading about more of the downsides to Oblivion [and some of the changes that have been made for Skyrim over Oblivion] I'm starting to think I want to get Skyrim and forget about Oblivion. And if for some reason I encounter something in Skyrim that might be better explained by something that happened in Oblivion then I'll just read the full story of Oblivion online somewhere or I'll ask on here about it. I wonder if I can get Gamstop to transfer all my MW3 preorder money over to Skyrim so I can get Skyrim when it comes out. Yes I know some of you are going to ask "Wtf?! Why would I trade MW3 for Skyrim?" Well the answer is simple, when I preordered MW3 I had internet and recently I've come into some hard times and had to give up internet at my apartment (but I can still tether off my Android phone for basic internet things like email, MS and FB) so since I have no internet, and I probably will not be able to get internet again until early 2012 sometime, there's no point in me getting MW3 when story mode is all I'm going to be able to play until I get internet back and that probably won't happen for at least 6 months. So I can either spend spend $65 and get MW3 and that single player story mode will entertain me for all of a day or 2 [maybe a week tops], or I can spend $65 on Skyrim and that single player story mode should keep me entertained for at least the next 6 months while I have no internet.

They should let you transfer the reserve to a new game (I transferred my FIFA 11 reserve before)

Forget MW3, those FPS games are just becoming the new Madden. At least this one has some promise of being updated drastically...

Kool, thanx for the heads up on the transfer. FPS is my preference in videogaming and I love the CoD series; CoDMW was my first experience in online multiplayer gaming and I played it daily for months on end so I got so used to the game mechanics of CoD that I prefer CoD over others that I've tried. Anyway this is Skyrim thread not MW so I better get back on topic before Staff gets their kybosh on, lol. Yea I am going to go to Gamestop tomorrow and change over my preorder to Skyrim and get that on release day.

Seeing as how Oblivion takes almost all the blame for my grades in high school (well, that and the fact that I had my ipod in in almost every class), Skyrim is probably going to make university a completely fruitless endeavor next year.

How can you tell you are halfway through Oblivion? Just curious, I haven't even completed the Save Kvatch quest yet cuz of all the other more interesting quests that I've been running accross, lmao.

Yea Oblivion is taking up a lot of my time right now and I'm sure Skyrim is going to be the same. For shame...lmao

Lol, I'm not sure how many hours of playing I'm up too atm or achievements really. I just know that I've been playing for about a week and in that time I have dedicated at least 3 days @ 12-14 hours a day + a few hours in the evenings after work to the game; I'm up to level 23 and I haven't even spent but maybe an hour+/- on the story quest. And when I get Skyrim I'm pretty sure that Oblivion is going to get shelved for a long time whether I've beaten the story or not.

Finishing Oblivion's main quest does not take a very long time, it is the other quests around that take a lot. Just do not level up too quickly or the monsters are going to become too powerful for you to handle without swearing. I personally finished the game I was only level 14 and I did all the guild's quests without much difficulties. Avoid leveling your main skills and grind instead your second skills to have +5 to three stats when you level up. A good thing that they have upgraded the level up system in Skyrim to a more "easier", less annoying form. I am eager to see how it will work... and the dragons of course . But come on this is a game worth finishing, do it at least to see the end!

Yea it's too late for me, lol, I have learned that the hard way. I was level 13 or 14 when I decided to go back to the Siege of Kvatch quest and got destroyed by the Adult Clannfears. So since I didn't realize those creatures would get changed if I leveled up I decided to go level up a few times and come back and then I got destroyed again by those bipedal crocodile things and I haven't gone back to the Siege mission since and I'm now level 25. So yikes for me, atm I'm working on building up my willpower and intelligance so I can use the higher level spells. I too was glad to read that they changed the leveling system for Skyrim so that any skill increase counts towards the character level but honestly I do hope they kept the major/minor skills though just cuz it was nice starting off as an apprentice in those skills.

Just saw some gameplay videos and it looks beyond incredible (well, maybe i'ma bit optimistic hahaha). Graphics are excellent and the setting is breathtaking, I just love the Norse stuff (in Oblivion I loved to hang around the north/bruma).
Gameplay seems vastly improuved too, the double spell things looks badass and probably makes it easier for mages (I hated all the change spell each time on Oblivion). Plus the combats look more interesting, blood looks nicer and the killing-blow move is so cool !

Don't know if buy it, since it would take alot of my free time... not sure I want that

Well, I started off at Morrowind maybe 6 years ago, so I was naturally disappointed with Oblivion. And, hearing about all the things they're removing from the system for Skyrim... I think I'll just stick with Morrowind.
I haven't fought a dragon in a video game and actually been impressed. I think it'll either be "let's all stand in front of this dragon and swing our swords through air for maximum damage" (Final Fantasy, Dragon Age, etc.), or "button mash combos while I jump around the screen" (God of War, Shadow of the Colossus, etc.)
And how many skills are left, like 15?
So, have they finally narrowed it down to just "Melee" and "Ranged"?
And "Armour", "Combat Magic", "Defense Magic"...
*sigh*

Also (another jab at Oblivion), isn't the point of an RPG (Role-Playing Game) to play a specific role in a fantasy world (not fantasy as a genre, but fantasy as in unreal)? How come my Redguard (naturally adept at physical combat, and basically useless in magic) is able to shoot bigger sparks and summon bigger baddies than MANKAR CAMORAN himself?! (and my Altmer walks up to the Gray Fox, the king of theives, and steals his armour right from his pockets?)

Skyrim is gonna suck.
But it'll sell.
Mostly because of the dragons.
(Which will suck)

Am I the only one left in the world who takes video games at face value? Am I having fun playing this? Yes. I therefore consider it a decent video game. Sure, there's some errors, but I'm not going to bitch and moan over trifling details like that.

Good way to look at it. I view games the same for the most part but I'm human so I have that human nature to bitch about something, lol. I am thoroughly enjoying Oblivion despite it's issues and I'm sure I will enjoy Skyrim even more based on what they've released about the game so far...

Dark Souls does dragon fights well. I shit myself when I see one...

But back to Skyrim. You owe it to yourself to at least play this game. Just because you didn't like oblivion and heard bad things about skyrim, you never know, the good might outweigh the bad. On thing I cant stand is someone who goes on and about how they hate something they have no idea about.

So I read the latest issue of Game Informer that came in yesterday and it looks like the Dark Brotherhood is going to be a little more difficult to get into this time around so that's kind of cool. I wonder if they kept vampirism in the game? Anybody hear anything about vampirism in Skyrim?

I hope every guild will be harder to get into. Ffs, you could get into the Mages Guild, and become the Archmage, without knowing how to cast a single Spell.

Don't know if there are any Vamps in the game, but both Morrowind and Oblivion had 'em as playable (they existed in earlier games, but weren't playable, I think), so shutting them off wouldn't make much sense.

I do agree about Guild entry difficulty. I never actually played Morrowind so I wasn't sure if they were in that game but now that I know they were then yes it would be a shame to take that oppotunity away...

Can't wait for Skyrim, I played Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion so I'm clearly not going to skip this one !!

I love what they did with the Unscripted Dragons aswell, looks awesome and pretty dangerous if you ask me But who cares, that's exactly the thrill of this game... not knowing what will jump in your face and cut the fuck out of you ! Anyways im looking forward on building a cool Warrior/Mage type of character

I know right. I can't wait. I've had Oblivion for a few weeks now and been playing almost non stop, I've logged almost 200 hours on the game mastered all the guilds and finished the main story so I feel like I'm running out of things to do now the closer Skyrim release date gets.

So I got to see a dragon fight video on youtube yesterday, courtesy of a friend, and it looked amazing. The graphics are awesome, the play looks great, the dual wielding looks like it works very well. The fight was pretty good, not the hack and slash that Ankläger was worried about because the dragon moves around so much and shoots a lot of fire the player had to move in for hacking then back off and shield from the fire and shoot [destruction] magic at it, he also had to run after the the 2nd dragon that came after he killed the first and run up to top of a ruin to attack it in flight (for a sec there he ran to the edge and pulled out a big 2 handed battle axe and I thought he was going to run and jump at the dragon just like Matthew McConaughey did in Reign of Fire). The dragons look like sligthly smaller versions of the dragons from Reign of Fire and they move and act in the same manner as the RoF dragons too, crawling around on their legs and wings biting and flame breathing at you; and they also fly around fire blasting in swooping motions too. That vid made me cream my pants and 11-11-11 is just not getting here fast enough...
