Lately, I've noticed a lot of people getting into Warhammer Fantasy and Warhammer 40,000. I believe it's due to the popularity of the RTS "Dawn of War" (which rocks, by the way). Hell, even I play it. I got a Tau army and everything.

i used to play Warhammer Fantasy years and years ago
my main army was definatly my Vampire Counts - who else?

i was one of the best that played in our area. i won campaigns and painting competitions
but now i havent played in a long time, i dont have contact with many people that would play either
but oh well. at least all that money spent gave me something to be proud of

I played it as a kid. Then got bored. then sold everything for 1/5 the price. A great way too spend my incredibly small mothly income. And I had some fun,...

It was really fun , I had an orc army . But it was too expensive and too time consuming . I can't wait for the Warhammer MMORPG , Mythic did a great job with DAOC . But my favourite game will ever be Blood Bowl , this was awesome !

I also played several years ago with Orcs & Goblins. But I quit since it was too expensive, too much work and I didn't have time. And of course the main reason why I quit ... it became so boring to play after a time

I've always seen them in stores and thought they looked cool, and I've even got Dawn Of War now (which took me ages to learn properly). But I was talking with my friend about this, the figures etc are just so damned expensive! You'd be better off carving your own :-\ I would ever buy any I don't think as it wouldn't be worth it really.

My son used to play Warhammer a lot and in the absence of his friends I had to be the oppositiion.
I didn't really enjoy playing the true Warhammer game but Bloodbowl was good.

He also had Necromunda - anyone remmber that ? - which was basically urban gang fighting.
I had my own team (Ratskins ) which I even painted myself.

I quote enjoyed the figure painting - except when it was an army where you had to paint all the figures the same - that was boring .

haha yes - Necromunda rings a bell. i never played it though, but i know its old now

they change the army books and stuff for warhammer every once in a while so i guess my army books are all old now as well
i am proud to own the very first undead army book though when they were just still 'Undead'
theres vampires and liches and mummies and everything all in one army

I play a bit of Warhammer, currently have moderate dwarf army and small vampire counts army, though I'm a very inactive player and painter, though recently I've become more active, and have even won a couple of battles.

I play Warhammer Fantasy Battles, I have a small Ogre Kingdoms army, whats good about it is that I have fewer models in army, less models to paint but I can add more variety to miniatures(you can add to small units too but it would be quite timeconsuming). Im quite lazy at painting, Ive only painted about 4 so far. I havent played much lately but its not very popular over here either, hence we dont even have a Games Workshop shop here. I hope to paint my whole army sometime, although it will probably happen in distant future.

Another side that I dont like about it is the price of it. Its quite expensive, so I havent bought a lot of miniatures. However, I think its a great way to spend some time, I like it.

I used to play Fantasy, as orcs and Goblins, and 40k as IG and started Dark Eldar, then, my local GW closed , I haven't had contact nor played with anyone who used to play Warhammer games.
Still, The tabletop original kicks the video games ass.

Dance, bitch!
@hanna: Yeah, I remember Bloodbowl and Necromunda. Played them a few times. Also played Inquisitor, the Warhammer: 40k spin-off game.

At one point I started to collect a Chaos Space Marines army that worshipped Khorne, but stopped when I realised that I wasn't getting near enough money to continue buying. Had a few squads of Berzerkers, a couple of Terminators, couple of squads of Chaos Marines and a Rhino. Recently, though, I've been talking about it a lot with my mate, so I've been considering getting back into it(Khorne again, of course. BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD. SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE). But fuckin', I'd hate to go up against Tyranids now, with the amount of new shit they've gotten.

On the Fantasy side of things, I was going to look into collecting a Lizardmen army, but eventually decided against it(the lure of 40k was too great).

Yeah I used to play Warhammer and Warhammer 40k I collected space orcs and the elves. It was quite an expensive hobby which is probably why I quit. The whole idea of it was pretty cool though If i was good at painting and shit I probably would have felt my money was going to better use. Playing the actual game itself though was a lot of fun.

yes Warhammer is really expensive but to play the game is so much fun, I have even 2 whole warhammer armies one 2500 points Lizardmen army and one 1500 points Chaos nurgle army. I have also competed in two tournaments here in Norway. I play warhammer very often actually since i have many friends who also play warhammer. we meet about twice a month to play.
and i have also started playing 40k with some space marines, but i think warhammer fantasy is much more fun than 40k.

Yes, that is correct. While Warhammer miniatures are expensive, most who have tried it, find it great fun to play, and another good thing is, that you don't have to constantly spend money on it, you can even buy an army, and use it all the time, never buying new models.

I competed in one tournament with my Ogre Kingdoms army. I am not very good player and Ogres are considered to be a rather difficult army to play, so I got 8th place from 16 players. I have about 2000 points worth models. Soon I am planning to take part in another tournament.

hey 8th place is not so bad, i'm not a very good player myself, in my first tournament I finished last. but then again some of Norway's best players participated, so almost everyone was better than me. and sometime in September i will probably play in a new tournament.

Yes, and I don't have as much models as I would like to yet... During that tournament I played a game against Lizardmen, and got solid loss, the salamanders and skinks and magic they have are quite badass.

Its ok, i found much more interesting and better wargames since. Warhammer is too damn expensive (i found a place that do american civil war minatures for £15 for 36 models, as a pose to £25 for 5 models) also it gets really boring to play after a while. The battles become the same. My advice to beginners - Guive it up and try other systems 1st.

I was surprised to see this up here as a catagory but it made me feel nastalgic. I used to play warhammer a bunch in HS. It was awssome. I played as space orks, Goff's. I liked them for the simple fact that they came off that "technologically inept" but packed one hell of a punch.

I already showed this to you Ph0eNix but here's something you won't find on a girl normally:

this is tattooed on my back

and I read the novels...I've played a few times but I don't have a complete army. My boyfriend has 5 armies....tyranids, orks, chaos space marine, eldar, and necrons....since he has all these I wanted to start one that he doesn't have already and went with space marines. I need more units though.

Warhammer is ok I suppose, I used to have quite a few Dark Eldar and play it every so often but it's expensive and gets a bit samey after a while. I recommend playing D+D to keep yourself amused. Much more interesting with lots of different rules to learn plus it's a lot cheaper!

lol

Anyway, I love the lore of Warhammer 40k, but I don't play the game. The models are FAR too expensive. Instead, I prefer to read the novels put out by the Black Library.

Wow, didn't notice there was a warhammer topic on ms !

I started pretty young, I liked all the aspects of the hobby. With time, I ended up exclusively painting/converting... loved it. But it's been like 4 years since I last touched a brush or bought some miniatures... lack of space/accommodation and some time.

I still read the fluff with black library books (Horus Heresy stuff is amazing), but someday I'll be back with the minis !
