Baz, have you ever read Robert's book "The Man in the Rubber Mask"? It's great! Part biography of Robert - part backstory of Red Dwarf. He goes into some detail about the filming of series 5, since that was happening while he wrote the book. He talks about series 3 and 4 as well plus the American "pilot" episode, all very funny.

haha ooh - no i havent read it. i am not a good book person for some reason all Red Dwarf related things seem rather interesting though i have the Smeg Ups and Smeg Outs tapes with all the outtakes and whatever else is on there - and they are very amusing i wonder if anyone else from the old lot will come back in here, or if we will be the only Red Dwarfers here. haha

my favourite character has to be Lister .. i think on the last poll i put kryten (who is now a close second in my mind) haha. the one line i can always remember Lister saying is "Lager, the only thing that can kill a vindaloo" or something similar to that.

I've been a fan of the show ever since it first came on the air. It's such an interesting and funny show. My favorite characters are Lister and Ace Rimmer. Ace Rimmer is so cheesy it's funny and Lister's jokes always crack me up. My favorite episode is probably the one where they go to that backwards world. That one is hilarious. Oh did you guys know that in the episode "Timeslides" Bill Steer from Napalm Death and Jeff Walker from Carcass made an appearance? In Lister's band "Smeg in the Heads" Bill Steer was the drummer and Jeff Walker was the bassist.

Recently I got all 8 seasons in a DVD boxset, like Woodsy, which is nice to have. Previously I had everything except it was taped off the tv all those years ago. And I found that there were two episodes missing from the original tapes, so I've seen everything now

The quote that most relates to my everyday life: Rimmer: ...but I'm getting up in a minute in Me2, season 1, where Rimmer's clone wants to work out until the wee hours of the morning and then wake up at 3 am to start studying. I don't personally have near that much drive but I frequently stay up late when I shouldn't Which quote relates most to your every day life?

I've got Series I through to VII on dvd, yay. It's one of my favourite British comedies along with Peep Show and Blackadder. Rimmer is awesome yet slightly cringeworthy because his character is like all of my negative traits amplified, ahaha, he's still my favourite character though. Series V is my fave series, "Quarantine" and "Marooned" are my fave eps. God I love this show ^^

I just found out that Jeff Walker and Bill Steer From Carcass were in Episode 5 of the first season "Timeslides" I think I said this on the previous thread but I am quite fond of this show, I have watched it since I have been young. I remember the episode where a rimmer from an alternate dimension comes into the series and starts making the real rimmer look bad Unfortunatly I don't watch this show as often as I'd like, but it's still great all the same.

I've known about Red Dwarf since I was 11/12, courtesy of my brother becoming addicted to it, although I never found it as funny as he did, it was enjoyable to watch nonetheless

One of the best comedies ever for sure. Good old Iron Balls Arnie J Rimmer himself has to be my favourite character, even if he's quite cringeworthy in places, as he's like all of my negative characteristics exaggerrated and put into one huge smeghead of a man, haha. Kryten is a close second and really helps add the newlife into the show that was injected in series 3 onwards. My favourite series is either 3 or 5 (they constantly change), both of which had some awesome ideas as seen in Timeslides, Back to Reality, Quarantine, Demons and Angels... and of course "Backwards". I love the episodes that are based round a wacky science concept as opposed to "meet a monster a week". The first 5 are the core of red dwarf to me, 6 felt a bit like series-5-lite (IMO) and the less said about the polymorph sequel the better, if anything that episode was the beginning of the partial downfal of the show (they just HAD to bring back Dibley, an old monster, and Ace...) And I really didn't like the almost americanised comedy of series 7 and Krytens awful change in characterisation at all. 8 is ok considering the initial scenario felt like it was scraping the barrel ideawise. There's a few stinkers like the two parts of "Pete" but there are some really good bits too, one of the best cat moments as well. "You're going to squeeze their ROLLS?" But yes, as always, I'm a tough critic when it comes to comedy. Red Dwarf is one of the best shows, hands down. The first 5 series especially are a godsend.

I was given Series 1 on DVD for Christmas and I already have 2 (i think) and 3. I grew up on things like this and my Mum and Dad used to watch them as well so it's great! I really should watch some more soon... Has anyone seen the Amercian version? i can't rememebr if it was posted on here but it really is awful! haha http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KwymOX6ey_g

yes it is, apparently even Americans think the American version is awful. I watched all the series' and all the extras - and on some of them they tell the story of how the American version came about, and they rip it apart pointing out what is wrong with it after going through all the series' I think my favourite was actually series VI and then V VIII wasn't as bad as VII. VII was quite bad in places, but it was still funny at least..

Okay I love this show eventhough I haven't seen all the episodes. Especially the later stuff. My Favorite season was whatever season it was when Chriton showed up. I hate to be so unknowing about something I like but I've had a decant level of exposure to the show. I just don't know when a season started or stopped.

Love the show, but thought the seasons where the crew came back were kind of weak. Seasons 3 and 4 were by far the best. What did everyone think of back to earth?
