A controversial album, to say the least. Disillusion's first effort - Back To Times Of Splendor - was an impressive progressive, melodic death metal album, and was really well received by the metal community. Gloria takes a completely different way, much colder, experimental, leaving death metal far away. That's why a lot of fans of the first album where completely taken aback by 'the new Disillusion'.

I love it. Props to a band for wanting to experiment and mess around a bit after a HUGE fucking debut album.

I totally agree-- there are some unbelievable moments in Gloria, to be sure. But, in my opinion, it's also hard not to sympathize with the criticisms of the people whose hearts got completely torn apart by Gloria... I certainly believe Gloria has its flaws, but it's pretty entertaining.

Prog metal fans are a pretty finicky bunch anyways. If a band releases anything "different" from their previous album the world comes crashing down. Look at Dream Theater. Same shit over and over...

That counts for fans of metal in general I'd say. And while I certainly welcome any band that doesn't do the same thing over and over and that experiments with each release, I can understand it when a fan finds a sound he likes and just wants more of the same. I myself am not at all like that though, if the choice were mine I'd want every single band to do something new with each release.
That being said, I haven't actually heard this album yet, so I don't know if it's drastically different.

If you love Back To Times Of Splendor this will be a pretty big shock. I don't want to spoil it for you. Give it a shot but you might think they aren't the same band.

yet the guitar work is immediately recognizable as Disillusion, even if different

Finally gave it a spin last week. Wow. It does indeed sound like a different band. However, it's not different in quality, this is still top-notch...

Glad you like it. It really is a great record. So many different elements in the music. After watching the video above I think I will go dig up the disc and play it in its entirety

Film clip for "Don't Go Any Further" is probably my favourite film clip of all time. The footage and song complement each other perfectly.

Gotta love that videoclip indeed If I remember correctly, film-m (the company who shot the film) are Andy Schmidt's friend and worked closely with him on that.

Quite a drastic change of style compared to the previous album, even some industrial influences can be spotted now...
Anyway, "Don't Go Any Further" is an impressive and very powerful and catchy song and I still love the video they made for it (but noone can deny that it's heavily influenced by Beastie Boys' very own Sabotage).

Sounds like Alchemist - Spiritech to me. I don't like Spiritech at all and this also doesn't sound good to me. I tried listening to this band with an open mind but I couldn't embrace them.

Some tracks are cool though "Aerophobic" "The Hole We Are In" & "Too Many Broken Cease Fires"

Wow, I knew about this album since 15 years ago but never listened to it! Pleasant surprise! Totally different to their debut, but engaging and very original. Can't stop listening to it. Fresh air and well executed. The lyrics are a bit repetitive, but overall an amazing album.

Revisiting this album lately, and just now really starting to appreciate it. It's very proggy and nice, even a bit avant-garde.
