Barren Earth - Stream New Track, Reveal New Album Details

After joining Century Media Records, the Finns Barren Earth have now shared the first track from their new record. The progressive death metal outfit, now reinforced by Faroese native lead singer Jón Aldará, launched the title track of their upcoming third full-length. The album will be entitled On Lonely Towers and will be released on March 30th, 2015 in Europe and March 24th in North America. Enjoy the 11-minute song below and share your impressions of the music.

Bassist Olli-Pekka Laine comments: "During the writing process of the album, we did many things from a totally new perspective. If there ever was a certain pattern in a basic Barren Earth song, this time we consciously tried to think things differently. Many other things changed too, some of them unintentionally, some of them willfully. A new production team, a new front man, a new record label... The list goes on. With the first song representing the album, we make no exception. Instead of putting out a song in a typical verse-chorus form, we thought that this 3-piece boulder would stand for the album better. It demands some concentration from the listener, but patience is rewarded in the end! So there you are, the title track of the upcoming album, On Lonely Towers."

Vocalist Jón Aldará adds: "On Lonely Towers can be considered a centrepiece of the album concept; stringing together the different storylines from the other songs, uniting the main characters and finally bringing a sense of hope to their struggles. It is also the song which inspired Travis Smith's beautifully crafted album cover."

On Lonely Towers was mixed by Petri Majuri and mastered by Tony Lindgren at Fascination Street Studios. The artwork was created by no other than Travis Smith.

Doesn't really do anything for me...well-written, but plain.

Not really a song to grab you on first listen, is it? Turns out to be a pretty good song after letting it boil for me.

I'm liking it a lot. I prefer the new cleans, always felt the cleans on their previous albums were a bit lackluster.

I don't believe in multiple listens changing my disposition to music

If I find a highly praised album that I dislike, I give it about a year before I go back to it - I wait for my tastes to accommodate the album. I've tried the whole "listen to it again" thing - doesn't work for me. In the last year or so my tastes have changed drastically and that allows for the enjoyment of all sorts of metal, let alone music as a whole
