Oh hell yeah, only eight more months before seeing Fish perform Clutching At Straws in its entirety. Can't wait for it. Giddy as a school girl for it.

Only the Fish era, btw, although I still find Season's End to be okay.

I just love Clutching at Straws in its entirety. When making this album the band was already breaking apart, the record company wanted new stuff fast and the singer had his own share of personal problems. The cover perfectly captures the moment: an upset-looking young band in a bar with dead celebrities, wondering if the band would join them in the afterlife. The lyrical content is just as dark and personal, and the music even more refined and mature than on their previous records until then.

For me, this is where the Fish-era Marillion peaked. It took me a while to get into it, but when I got, it, I really fell in love with this album. Clutching at Straws is simply one of the best rock records of the late 80's. The title of the album alone is so clever it's almost amusing.

This album was released 33 years ago today and it remains one of my favorite and most listened to albums to this day. Not a weak song on it, pure gold from start to finish. Best of the Fish era and best Marillion period.

"Are we sitting on a barbed wire fence?
Racing the clouds home!
Racing the clouds home..."

One of the greatest moments in recorded music.
