Malcolm McDowell for his performance as Alex in A Clockwork Orange. Without him Clockwork Orange wouldnt be half as good. Orson Welles as Charles Foster Kane in Citizen Kane. Jack Nance as Henry Spencer for his incredible performance in Eraserhead.

@cursed: I don't know either it's kinda like the attitude towards acting in general. I mean, when you see him in a movie you truly see a great actor, this is, you always see someone different. With actors now, it's the same shit all the time, all they change is the clothes they wear something like that...

Bogart is KING! He truly is, a great and ice cold actor! I love all the movies I've seen him in. My favourite female classic actor is swedish Ingrid Bergman, beautiful and got a lot of talent. I've never seen her in a not-great-movie!

Steve McQueen in the great escape, hes a total badass in that movie, rumour has it that the only way he agreed to be in the movie was if he got a scene on a motorcycle, and it turns out to be one of the greatest scenes ever.

I recently remembered about Marlon Brando. I think he was a really good actor, specially when he was younger and did a lot a movies. IMO his last masterpiece was the Godfathers' movies, after that I don't recall him doing a considerably good movie

@tulkas: i agree man, bogart is just ice fucking cold... if you were to take him as he is in his typical role and throw him out the window, i think he'd just say "oh crap..." instead of screaming

Audrey Hepburn, Sean Connery, Lon Chaney, Anthony Hopkins, Humphrey Borgart, Greta Gorbo and Cary Grant. Difficult to pick one really but if I have to it would probably be The Phantom of the Opera himself Lon Chaney. Although I really liked Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca and the Maltese Falcon as well. Also Greta Gorbo's work in the silent movies and Mata Hari were really inspired!

Bogey is incredibly cool, but for me it's Errol Flynn. Played the best roles, and his actual life was as exciting as those of the characters he played. My hero.

It would have been Vincent Price's birthday today. I found this, did a double-take, because I wondered why Matthew McConaughey was tagged as Vincent Price. But otherwise, my favourites are Paul Newman and James Stewart. I did a general classic movies marathon with my mother, and I chose films with the latter, mainly. For once, we didn't argue much about the movies, I guess we were too busy drooling in front of Newman.

Account deleted Written by Ilham on 27.05.2014 at 16:43 I would add to the awesome of that photo with this. Lee was born on the same day as Price, and Cushing a day before. To this thread I'd also add Sir Alec "I'll only ever be know for Obi Wan despite all my other awesome films" Guinness, Petter Sellers, Richard Burton, Patrick McGoohan, Cary Grant, Jack Lemmon, Takeshi Shimura. I guess. Not really sure where classical actors begin and end, but classical Hollywood cinema ended in the mid-60s so I suppose if you hadn't been in a film then you couldn't be considered a "classical" actor.

28.05.2014 - 12:52 Written by [user id=4365] on 28.05.2014 at 12:26 Haha yeah, the poor guy. Which makes our memory of his career the equivalent of that holographic message that stayed trapped in R2's memory for I don't know how long. Everybody seems to forget Lawrence of Motherfuking Arabia. Talking about that, Peter O'Toole deserves more love too. Cary Grant still lives in my memory, I give him an opportunity to shine on my pc screen once in a while. But that's also because he's handsome. When it comes to movie classics, I get very shallow. If the cast includes a beautiful individual, the movies gets a higher chance of being watched.

Account deleted Written by Ilham on 28.05.2014 at 12:52 Well you can be shallow, I'll be sexist. I really can't think of any female actors that stick in my mind (outside of their looks anyway). Audrey Hepburn would seem to be the obvious one, but I can't stand her tbh.

28.05.2014 - 13:09 Written by [user id=4365] on 28.05.2014 at 13:01 There is one classic actress that combines looks and talent, and doesn't play the little ingenue all the time. She always got the bad role, because she could actually act. She shares the same name, Katharine Hepburn. Unfortunately I think most of the actresses of that time were just beautiful canvases. And it's still the case now anyway.

Ian McKellen would be my top choice. His charisma, expressiveness and immense talent combined with hard work have always overwhelmed me.

Account deleted Written by Ilham on 27.05.2014 at 16:43 Yeah, Vincent Price was undoubtedly a master of his craft. I love his collaborations with Roger Corman and thoroughly enjoy a number of his other filmes too, namely The Last Man On Earth, House On Haunted Hill and The Abominable Dr. Phibes. You know, come to think of it, I think I like more movies with Price than any other actor ...
