Great fucking album. I do miss the goofy pig squeals, but everything else about it is so damn well put together, I almost don't care.

Phenomenal release and possibly the band's best.

This album just sounded really average, lots of good drumming but you expect that in a tech death band. I like their lyrical content but then that's about it I guess. None of the songs really made a lasting impression.

Hopefully I don't come away with the same impression because the hype for this has me interested and I really don't want it to be just another generic tech death album.

I thought this was solid, and a step up from their previous album, but you seem to be a lot more into brutal death than I am so will be interested to see how you find it

Since there hasn't been a single good technical death metal album this year (archspire where are you) I had high hopes for this but just as their past albums this is just "ok". There are some good riffs here and there and the drums are pretty good but there is just too much filler/generic stuff to make it worthwhile to listen to the whole album. I guess it doesn't help that I don't like the vocals that much either.

while I agree Archspire is top notch, did you not think much of Defeated Sanity or Deeds of Flesh? Both are more brutal than technical (as is Cytotoxin)

This band definitely has a high level of impressive musicianship skills which is clearly on display here, and it does have it's occasional interesting moments, but to put it simple, I find the songwriting too dull and uninspiring. It sounds like the majority of what other brutal death metal bands put out nowadays imo, just lacks overall memorability and excitement, and the vocals can soon become monotonous.

Nah, this was definitely one of the best death metal albums to come out in 2020. Super sharp and tight tech death.

Honestly, though, aside from Heads For The Dead, TBDM and Heaven Shall Burn, I don't remember there being any good death metal of note in 2020.

2020 was great for death metal - Ulcerate, Earth Rot and Wake in particular for me, but also Black Curse and Afterbirth got valid hype. Cytotoxin's album that year was boss though - I wouldn't say it sounds like the majority of brutal death metal at all really, with how melodic and technical it is

There's so many quality death metal albums coming out each year (to the point that you barely have time to listen to it all) that if you struggle with finding something worthwhile, you probably weren't looking for it hard enough.

There's always going to be good albums in death metal each year, but from my experience at least, some years have more standout albums than others - I've listened to a lot of DM albums from this year and I've probably found the fewest number of 'standout' albums (ie ones that I'll be eager to return to in future) since probably 2019. It's mainly just that top-tier albums come along more sporadically than merely solid albums

Ulcerate was crap, but I forgot all about Black Curse, Afterbirth and Wake. I stand corrected. (Shame on me for forgetting Afterbirth with how much I loved it, almost as much as Cytotoxin itself).

Earth Rot is a new name for me, gonna have to add that to my watchlist.

I think The Destroyer of All was the only album I ever liked by these guys. They’re just not an exciting band.
