A Brutal Poem Of Technicalities (Ordered By Years)

So here are some Brutal, Technical, Progressive and sometimes Atmospheric death metal works I enjoy or that I believe should be given a try because they're unique and interesting, almost an essentials list when it comes to that style. There are some unorthodox choices as well in the mix that aren't just full-on tech death, some bands also incorporate grind, black, core elements or even jazz. Hope you'll all find something that suits your taste! The list is ordered by years. Feel free to comment and give recommendations! Just refrain from telling me an album shouldn't be featured here... All the albums here are deliberately hand-picked and if it made the list, it's for a reason.

Man, how can a meh album like Datalysium be the best tech death album in a year that also had way better stuff from Fleshvessel, Sarmat, Tomb Mold and Lunar Chamber? On that note, check out Lunar Chamber. Uplifting progressive Buddhism-inspired Lykathea Aflame style death.

I mean I like the albums you mentioned but in no fucking way is Datalysium a "meh" album lol get outta here. By far my favourite out of all of these, it is not even close. That's pure unadulterated tech-death and amazing wankery like I love. They even managed to produce some of my now all time favourite Tech tracks in the form of "Algorithmic Salvation" and "Lexicontagion". It's like Necrophagist with better production if it was played/altered by robots from outer space. I'd even wager this album could be a gateway into technical death for many unitiated ears. Anyways, to each their own. But yeah I'll check Lunar Chamber, I missed that one. thanks

Also just added 4 more bands that aren't featured on MS. The first only has an EP from 2017 doing mostly Progressive Death. Pretty good stuff. The second is a tech death band from Japan with a sick 2020 EP and an even better album that came out just last year. Second to last is from Belgium and released their first full length last year and it kicks ass, great tech with a lot of slam death (my favourite out of these). Finally, the last band is from Finland and just released its first full length TODAY and its great, go ahead listen to it. Updated the list again for 2024: Brodequin - Harbinger Of Woe (Album 2024 - Deathgrind, Brutal Death Metal) Very fucking heavy yet groovy. This is a release that comes 20 yrs after their last and IMO this is by far their best release in career mainly due to production and better songwriting which makes for a more engaging album. Everything here simply sound better.

Added a classic from 2014 from a band that is, surprisingly, not featured on MS but definitely should be: Fuck You And Die - Elements Of Instability (Album 2014 - Technical Death Metal) Simply an amazing unadulterated tech-death album with great production, performance and songwriting. Classic stuff for any fan of the genre really, quite close to a masterpiece for this style. - - - Also added another entry for 2024 in the form of: Aborted - Vault Of Horrors (Album 2024 - Brutal, Deathcore, Tech-Death) This is an insane album that mixes tons of stuff and this is probably due to the fact that every single track has guests from the death world on 'em. You've got guest appearances from members of Cryptopsy, Archspire, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Despised Icon and more... Very cool album, check it out.
