It isn't quite as good as Scepter however (ob)servant has a different sound so it's best not to compare the two and enjoy them for their separate qualities. I love the amazing guitar leads in A Calculated Effort and Horde In Devolution. You better know which ones I'm referring to.

When they recorded Scepter they had a different vocalist, I think. Disagree with your first point, agree with your second. I'll always pick Ob over Scepter. Hard to compare the two, though. Definitely right about that.

Easily one of my favorite tech death albums. Love the vocals (the new(ish) guy has a way more versatile voice, sounds way more passionate to me, blah, blah, he's better), the guitar work is fucking excellent, the drumming is tinny but works, etc. The biggest problem is that there's too much filler. Yeah it adds to the metal bits, but the sci-fi-like stuff goes on for too long. It's what makes this a 9.5 as opposed to, say, a 9.9 for me. But I do think the production works. It's clean, but everything sounds right. Few death metal bands benefit from clear production.

It's this album that makes Psycroptic stand out for me. Scepter is great, but it's not as unique.

Has some exceptionally strong tracks, but a tad inconsistent. Overall, pretty solid.

Really good death metal album, definitely a notch higher than their previous outputs. A calculated effort is a gem of a song
