@BitterCOld: of course that's the law. But I guess another meaning implying in the "can't be President" is the tension between Russian and American... no offence I just see people generalize that after Cold War and the conflict between Capitalism and Communism which results as relationship between Russia vs US. that could be why Russian origin can't be USA President. Popularly that knows even nowadays Russia and USA are two biggest force in the world, after Soviet time...

Why? because drinking clouds judgment and teenagers don't exactly have the best judgment to begin with. that and activists like MADD pushed the federal government to bump the age. technically each State can set it's own drinking age, but any State that opts for 18 (well, under 21) gets denied a bunch of federal highway funding.

@BitterCOld: The fact that the drinking age is 21 is the joke of the world! No other country where alcohol is available does that, it's idiotic and makes no sense : Notice the image I put up did say "beer" after all. I'd also like to point out that certain Western European countries have a drinking age of 16, Greece actually has NONE (as far as I knew when I was last there). Teens aren't inherently cursed with bad judgement, the US is just dealing with it the wrong way. America does have some things to be proud of, but that right there should be classed as shame. anyway, recently I found out that in New York City, a type of ban was put on sodas and cigarettes! I heard about it before as it was being talked about, but I didn't know it got passed! How can you ban cigarettes in bars?! (I mean, other countries do that too, but it doesn't make it any less silly) also, I don't drink soda, personally......but I'm sure an overwhelming majority can agree that to even think of passing such a ban is ridiculous! http://www.slate.com/articles/business/the_pivot/2012/10/soda_ban_and_bloomberg_how_the_new_york_mayor_is_creating_a_great_new_social.html Realistically, when did it become okay for a legislative body to decide how healthy a life someone lives? Grown people at that! I'm not trying to diss America, but a handfull of their laws are laughable, I'm turning into Joe Biden just talking about them

I've always found it ridiculous that in some states you can drive a car at 16, you can kill (or be killed) for your country at 17, but you can't have a beer until you're 21.

25.10.2012 - 01:43 Written by Valentin B on 25.10.2012 at 01:29 well that's your point of view just like there are other points of view on the matter. Btw that 17 year thing is all rampant all over Europe as well. As for the driving of a car, well in Europe you don't live a couple of hundred miles away from a school which is quite often the case in the US. And tbh I am all for settng the alcohol age iu Europe all over the place to 21. It seems like many people who accuse the US of these sorts of things just can't place themselves out off their own little perceptional world, because they relate everything to their own circumstances.

25.10.2012 - 09:01 Written by [user id=160] on 25.10.2012 at 00:37 teens DO have inherently worse judgment, a result of the fact they are not done developing physically or mentally. certain other countries don't allow alcohol at all, so feel free to start posting in their threads and expounding your "wisdom" at them. don't like our laws, don't come over here. i'm quite fine with that.

03.11.2012 - 06:42 Written by TOUGHEST MEMBER on 02.11.2012 at 23:59 I don't think Florida was affected. We only got some wind and rain here in S.C. The damage path started to the north of us. I assume people are in such dire straits because A- They didn't evacuate and/or B- FEMA hasn't gotten their resources together yet and are still working on the situation. Although, IMO, FEMA didn't do as great a job after Hurricane Katrina as we would have liked either. They did help, but there were a lot of bad stories I heard. People living in tents or clapboard shelters for months on end, but I guess they can only do so much with the funding they get. Hopefully they will get the food necessities (and clean water) set up quickly. It's a really bad situation for those that were hit.

04.11.2012 - 03:45 Written by Raging Dreamer on 03.11.2012 at 06:42 It's nice to see FL, S.C and others was unaffected : ). Yeah FEMA hasnt provide resources in time, but yeah I hope everything facility will come, and by the funding supportive people will get well soon. Well, I feel like the situation will be better soon, actually since Katrina, not so much America flood/disaster is fussing loud. It's better handled there than in other country. I would guess people in the flood area can have funding support, food and necessities problems is only just time... : )

04.11.2012 - 08:26 Written by Bad English on 03.11.2012 at 21:48 Ok this is going to be complicated... Each state gets a certain amount of electoral votes, depending on the population of that state, so each state has a different value/number of electoral votes. It's really screwed up because a president can be elected and not get the majority of total votes in the country, since each state is 'won' for that number of votes. It's all or nothing with each state. Take South Carolina for example. We are valued at 8 or 9 electoral votes, while California has 55 Electoral votes. Say Romney gets a slim majority of votes here. He gets all 8 electoral votes, and say Obama gets a slim majority in California, and gets all 55 electoral votes. Say that you add the two together for a total number of votes, and say that the difference is like.. 2 votes in favor or Romney, but guess what. He only got 8 electoral votes and Obama got 55, so guess who wins the election. The one who got the 55 votes, regardless of who got the actual majority of votes from both states. This does not necessarily represent my preference either. I'll stay away from too much political conversation, though. People get mad lol... Buuuuuuut, I do know that, according to early projections, Romney will most likely get this state's electoral votes, since S.C. tends to vote Republican in every election. Early projections also say that Obama will win California. This is going to be a very close race, regardless. Sadly, a lot of people are refusing to vote this year because they're tired of not having a candidate worthy of their vote. I tend to agree, but will be voting nonetheless.

13.11.2012 - 05:43 Written by Raging Dreamer on 04.11.2012 at 08:26 Keep in mind that not even states vote for the candidate with the most votes from the people all the time. The people's vote is more of a recommendation for the people's whose votes actually count.
