82.3?! Thats cheaper than Alberta....which is bizarre. Then again, everything is more expensive in Alberta...god I hate this province.

Thats interesting. Shit out here is more expensive, and our minimum wage is lower. At the same time we're desperate for laborers out here so its not unheard of to come across a 19 year old whos making $20/H, so its very rare to find somewhere thats paying just minimum wage. We don't have PST out here either so that really effects things (cost of living).

In all seriousness though, if I knew I could get a job in Ontario I would be there in an instant, I would love to work and live in downtown Toronto, I'm definitely a big city kind of guy and Calgary is just a big stretch of strip-malls, highways, and walmarts. Theres no culture out here, like in Montreal or Toronto. But from what I hear the job market isn't nearly as open as it is out here.

@Dr. Rock: It's not that hard to get a job in downtown Toronto...if you walk down Yonge St. there are Help Wanted signs everywhere...you can find a job pretty easily as a busboy/server actually...telemarketing places are big here too and could find a job in that nature...just check craigslist...but yeah, I suggest taking a trip to Toronto and walking around and looking for Help Wanted signs on Queen and Yonge Street...also, Chez Cora's is looking for busboys all the time to my knowledge...it's $11/hr there and it's on King St. right downtown...I couldn't stand Toronto anymore...it's such a dirty place...no offense to anyone who lives there...metropolitan cities like North York and Oshawa are yuck places...

Yeah I'm done with the food industry, worked far too many kitchens and fast food places to go back. And long hair definitely will make it hard for me to get a job as a busboy or server. When I was down around Queen street it didn't seem any dirtier than Calgary, in fact, it felt slightly cleaner. Not to mention people in Toronto were way more polite than here. I just like the idea of something always happening, its a great city for someone like myself who has ADD, its always busy, theres always something new to do, and its not just a bunch of strip malls.

Good and bad. Good to see us getting our sport back, bad because theres going to be more of this dishonourable city feuds. (ie between Calgary and Edmonton - both cities lack any honour or class in this feud).

That will not happen.

The attendance is not awfully high in Florida, but the basketball team in Florida isnt doing any better, so it is far from being a disaster over there.
Lightning dont have the biggest fanbase neither, nonetheless it is one of the most loyal fanbases in the NHL : the team will not move any time soon.
The Coyotes are a more plausible team to get moved, but that will only happen if the team keeps not making the playoffs in the next 3-4 years; at that point it will become dangerous, but not for the moment.

Some seem to think that Nashville's team could move, which would be more likely then any other team.

Get this though : the NHL commissioner does not want to relocate a team right now. Hockey's popularity in the States is going up so moving a team from the US to Canada would be the last thing he wants to do.

The americans can never be fans like canadians? It is true that canadians are bigger on hockey then our southern neighbors, but try telling that to Minnesota fans, Philly fans, Ranger fans, etc. Those guys (and girls!) love hockey just as much as we do, and if you don't believe me, I'm sure they would tell you (mind you, I don't think you'll find much on MS though).

actually, in ontario, thats the unofficial wage. for anyone over 18, 8.75 is their wage. for anyone younger, like 17, 16 and 15(which are the legal ages to work), then they are making anywhere between 7.17 to 8.50ish.

Yes. But even now, I still live at home, but I have a savings account set up to save for post-secondary and such ($200 or so from each pay check), and I pay a reasonable sum of rent to help out the family. Even after both these expenses I still usually have somewhere around 500-600 (depending on the paycheck size) to spend on greedy ol' me.

Wow, that sounds like the way it was when I was working at Petcetera-I'd bust my ass and all the do-nothing suck-ups would get all the raises and promotions. After 4 months I was the longest lasting employee (outlasted 2 managers and 1 district manager on top of that). I remember boxing day last year I was the only dumb sucker who didn't call in sick, even the manager didn't show up. So I ended up working a 10 Hour shift by myself, in a warehouse sized store, it was hell. Somehow I managed to keep the store running for over 3 hours that I was scheduled, and I knew there was a supervisor position open, but instead they gave it to this brown-nosing bitch who treated everyone like shit. I then made a conscious decision to just not give a shit - purposely sleeping in, taking extremely long ass breaks, ridiculous amounts of smoke breaks, being a caustic prick to any customer that was the least bit unpleasant, breaking company property, showing up hungover or still drunk etc....Surprisingly I quit before I was fired (after 6 months of working there). Later I found out the manager was fired, and with great hostility at that. Serves that bitch right.

Now I work for an independent business, working at a small store that sells used DVDs, CDs, books and video games, as well as boardgames, card games, strategy games and RPGs. Its a fun place to work and the owners treat me very nicely. I think I figured out shit just rolls down hill at big chain companies.

Yeah. people who were promoted over me constantly came up to me to ask for this or that. or how to do this or whatever. managment came up to me for directions. even general managers. i mean, sure, i wasnt the longest lasting worker there for 3 years. but i was one of those guys who lasted the longest, and knew everything about the place. and it struck a nerve when as the days progressed, i started losing authority over the noobies. everyone became so apathetic, that i didnt matter. and i'm one of those people who strongly believes in seniority(only if he/she works hard), devotion, and commitment. not a single one of those factors was being recognized, and no one was respecting me. i figured that if i leave now, i will seriously screw the guys over, simply coz they desperately need me, yet they dont know it. i left, and abut 30 other people(from a staff of 70) left coz i left(or most of them left coz i left).

on top of that, during my last couple of days there, some of the managment tried to get me fired for some stupid conspiracy that was taking place around the people that i worked with. they fucked up, and considering i had unoffical authority over them, no one recognized them when shit happened. the blame always came to me. good thing is that whatever the other two did, i video taped it on my cellphone camera and i was set free. the other two didnt even get any disciplinary warning or slap on the wrist.

as a result, i yelled at a junior manager, told him to fuck off. i yelled at the general manager for being so clueless. i yelled at the head office for committing political incest. and i snapped at everyone i trained who got promoted over me.

sad thing is, that they have yet to replace, or find someone who can replace me. and its been 3 long fucking months.

good thing is that i'm no longer a part of the company, and while i was leaving, i stole about 3000 tickets, so now i can watch whatever movie i want for the rest of my life...stupid fuckers.

@Soliloquy:
Yeah your a lot like me, I have a strong belief in structure and seniority. I have no problem taking instructions from someone who's been working at a place longer than me. Its a respect thing. Unfortunately while working for a big company the phrase "shit rolls downhill" has great application. The average hardline worker (non-manager/supervisor that is), get all the shit dumped on them from above because the manager fucks up. For example, at Petcetera all us regular staffers had not been informed by the manager that a certain cat was supposed to be on a diet, so we fed her the regular food. Calgary Humane Society found out about this and reported it to the head of the company, instead of taking responsibility, our manager wrote-up all the regular staffers for that- this kind of shit was happening on a regular basis. Luckily before I quit I sort of formed and unofficial union and convinced pretty much all non-manager/supervisor staff (and some supervisors) to follow me, took that location about 5 months to recover. Lesson of the story; never underestimate the power of the little guy.

Anyways Soliloquy, where did you work?

I worked at AMC Theatres in toronto.

and funny thing that made my day yesterday was that i got a call from a few of the people that still worked there. and for some reason, they ALL desperately want me back and promising me that things have changed. okay, if they say so...but fuck that! i dont care if i was the pillar that held the entire company on my shoulders for those 3 years. its their fault for over-looking me.

and all my friends who i trained and i really liked, all just got promoted, and thus, say that i should come back and run the entire place again, coz i would have more power....having more power doesnt really mean shit if the people with authority are still playing favoritism..

we tired to sign up a union a few times. but everytime anyone even uttered the word 'union,' that person got fired for something or another. so...yeah, go amc!

though, i would say, that for a first job, that place is great for anyone. however, for someone like me, who has had a random job since i was 12(i'm 21 now), amc is more of a joke that is not even worth the experience!

You should go back, steal more crap, then quit again, leaving them more crippled than ever.

As far as unions go, they are only worth it half the time. If your just looking for a little extra spending money its really not worth the union dues. But if your working full-time it can be good, my girlfriend used to work at Safeway and the union there is ridiculous, they gave her raises like every fucking shift (not literally).
