of all the masterpieces within the metal genre, there are songs that would be perfect funeral songs. for me i would pick "Beyond the Realms of Death" by Judas Priest and Fagning by Windir are the two metal songs i would have played at my funeral. 1184 probably too. yeah, what about you guys? what would you want at your funeral?

EDIT: CHANGED MY MIND i want arntor played too.

Silly answer: Gamma Ray - Fairytale

More serious answer: Anathema - One Last Goodbye

Truthful answer: Pretty sure I wouldn't have a metal song played at my funeral.

The Unknowing - Omnium Gatherum

But I would like many many songs to play at my funeral, so this is the first song to pop into my mind haha

I have played with the idea of choosing Transatlantic - The Whirlwind, Moonsorrow - Tulimyrsky and Dream Theater - Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence. And nothing shortened. If they love me, they will endure.

Not necessarily a metal song per se (this one's more electronic if anything), but:

Katatonia - Unfurl

Just in case I get some flack:

Woods of Ypres -Traveling Alone

Solitude by Candlemass

Definately on my playlist as well.
I don't think my relatives would like to hear the Anorexia Nervosa version, but I don't care to play that one either.

Just got back from a funeral of a friend taken too early, they played her songs a lot of the service. When they played her songs there was silence and everybody kind of concentrated on the songs in relation to the dead person as to remember her.
Kind of made me re evaluate what songs i would have. After getting a reminder of how much grief and sadness is in the room already and people already struggling to keep it together as it is, i'm not sure if it would be right to play a song that made it sound like you never enjoyed life.......but then again it would depend how you died and if you were a cunt or not, which you would never really know yourself anyway

^ Interesting.
I didn't know they actually played in memoriam songs in funerals.
Here in my country they never do, so I thought threads like these were like a joke or something...
Sorry for your loss btw

Thanks, 30 is a young age to go at, it just makes it that much more painful.

They don't, wow that sux, it definitely adds to the emotion. A friend who hung her self had Metellica nothing else matter5s play as her coffin got taken away to the place it gets burnt, it sparked a massive eruption of tears....not because it sucked so much either.
Thing is though, she never really even liked that music, some twat who was half her mate jumped in and got these songs she wasn't even into which is why it's important to make your requests now...my body would sit up in its coffin if it heard Metellica playin at my funeral.

I've changed my mind. Extol's Celestial Completion is more lyrically appropriate for a funeral than any other song I know, so I pick that.
