umm, how to pick one of those games when you have this opposing opinions? I will try to buy both because, with what you both have told, they have gotten my interest by now.

OH NO! DO NOT SKIP SH3!
Its the second greatest game of this series and without doubt the most frightening one. My alltime fav SH game is the second, when it comes to story, but when it comes to overall experiance I must say SH3. SH3 I just amazing and is NOT a game you should skip. I have completed SH 3 several times and understood enough that this is atleast as important as any other SH game.

I did however find SH4 very weak. As a matter of fact I havent even completed it. Just lost intresst, the whole koncept of this "safe haven" room kinda turns me off bigtime. I mean It just destroys the feeling that you are never safe that occurs in the other games. Sure the room can get infested by evil spirits! Just light a candle and your safe again... Nothing exciting there.
I must however say that SH4 has a rather exciting story wich I am looking forward to finally experiance all once I have the time to do it.

My advice is however to play SH3 before. Its generally a better game than SH4 and in MY opinion the most intense game in the SH series.

I agree that it has good graphics but I don't think that skipping it is gonna change anything in the plot of SH it has absolutely nothing to do with SH2
and about the safe house in SH4 it seems u haven't played it enough coz some where in the middle of the game the safe house isn't safe anymore, I have played SH4 on pc and I think the graphics are Superb.....

I didnt say anything about the graphics so I dont understand why you bring that to this disscussion? I love the graphics of all SH games nothing wrong with any of em.

The room starts getting infested by spirits about halfway yes I know. There comes evil babies out of the walls and thoose annoying sounds and stuff come from everywhere. But they aint the least bothersome since you can just light a candle and that will excorsise the evil spirits and the room is once again safe. Wich still makes it a "safe haven". By the way I have only played to the "evil side Prison" then i got bored, worth mentioning is that that fucking silly guy in raincoat isnt scary at all and I dont care shit what he is doing there since he really is just annoying.
I also found the it so boring that you had to play the same level twice.... really boring actually since none of the areas is paticularly scary.
And thoose ghosts in SH 4 are not scary at all just annoying.

Sum it up = SH4 is not scary at all, just annoying and repetive compared to its glorious prequels. Wich basicly also means that it is a very dull experiance compared to the other SH games.

Also dont get me wrong.. I LOVE SILENT HILL but the 4th part was just.... baaah. /care

PS: As you may have noticed I edited this post to add a little more comments, and ofcourse no we aint gonna fight over what game is the better its up for each one of us to form our own opinion.

Well I'm not gonna start a fight about this, this all depends on how u look at the game (ur prespective)...and since I'm an open-minded guy I'm not gonna say ur wrong but Imo SH4 is better, but I think I'll give SH3 another shot.....

I would really recommend you to give SH3 another shot. Your incredibly positive way to look at SH4 might get me to complete it asap I get time.

Silent Hill is a beautiful movie...much better than i was expecting...what an atmosphere...perfect

Hey I have played SH3 now and I've reached Alessa's room where u have to place the tarrot cards to open the door, and I have changed my mind about this game it is a very good game indeed (not better than SH2 or SH4) but it still is good, tooooooo scary and pretty boring at times but the graphix and story are good I'd give it a 7/10.

This is one of the reasons why I love Sh3 the most, its without doubt the scariest part of the Silent Hill series. I get more kicks out of being scared than unsolving mysteris, might also explain why I think of SH4 as inferior(since it isnt very scary)

HOOOOORAY I have just finished SH3 and killed GOD (too easy I think) and I think that saying a joke after defeating such monsters is the most stupid thing in a horror game (Heather joking with that cop guy).

@Basso: do u know the difference between the new game and the extra new game?

Actually I have no knowledge at all of any new silent hill games, basicly lost the "obsession" when I played SH 4 Might get it back with time though.

After reading Edgar Allan Poe's "The Fall of the House of Usher" and reading a summary of Silent Hill 4: The Room, I have been driven to think that, perhaps, there is an influence from this short story in the plot of SH4. In both stories, the main character and characters feel that the house (in the case of T.F.O.T.H.O.U.) and the Room 302 (in the case of SH4) are both sentient and that have a life of their own. However, I haven't played the Silent Hill 4 game yet as to make a decent analysis and as to establish if there are deeper similarities between them as to have the same purpose of using this idea and the possible same symbolisms. I have to check this out.

Its when you can play the game again, wich special weapons and costumes. (If you played the game in a certain way you will be rewarded with a lightsaber or a machine gun with infinite ammo, or a dress that has a transformation that make you look like sailor mooon etc. Check out some guides to find the exact locations where the special stuff spawn if you have unlocked them.)

i saw the movie and it was great, even though the quality wasn't that great, the plot was great and made me think about the movie for the rest of the day. i have the all the soundtracks from the games and the remixes, they're really nice, good ambiental music, sometimes it turns into dark ambiental and so it ads a little spice in the atmosphere. i never played the game, only saw it at a freind's of mine, looked interesting but at that time not very attractive(maybe for another time)

I finally got all four endings of SH4 and I'm really happy to have been able to do that, and I'd like to thank all who have been a part of this accomplishment and I'd like to thank the academy for giving me the oppurtunity to.......etc.

I saw the movie liek two weeks ago and I really liked it. REally cool FX, and it's pretty faithful to the game, the camera angles, the monsters. I ejoyed it alot... The demon is fuckin'g awesome with that enormous sword, and that scene where he rips off the skin of that women in the stairs of the church is fuckin' awesome. However I missed the skinless dogs... And I didn't like the end.

I saw the movie as well not too long ago myself.

it was alright but i wouldn't write home about it.
The ending was kinda confusing to me (maybe the movie has to be watched by more intelligent persons), and the scene with the barbed wire killing all pretty muched pissed me off cause there was no imagination to that.

It was cool how it showed pyramid head but there wasn't much depth into him/her/it?
Maybe i'm just being a bit too negative towards SH movie, but being a fan of the series and from the heresay that i heard about,it i was expecting something a bit better.

Harry Potter existed before EMO children. Besides it has some nice visual effects.

Anyway. I loved teh guy with the huge sword in Silent Hill. That scene where he rips off the clothges and teh skin of that girl is pure madness But teh ending certainly is for a sequel. I hope it's no longer than 2 movies.

Silent Hill.....that is a game I will not allow my kids to play until they're at least 16 years old....or even 18....
It's awful....not that it's poorly done but the environment and story and sounds are awful...2 or 3 years ago when I was interested in horror films and games I really wished to play the game....now acquired Silent Hill 3 and so far the game has been traumatising.....I know it's meant to be...but getting spiritual traumas from games ain't, in fact, a goal for me....Nothing beats Prince Of Persia....that's a beautiful friendly fairy-tale with beautiful sceneries and moments....

Meanwhile...I hope to obtain the Sailor Moon outfit, lightsaber and stuff....hopefully will make the game funnier and less depressive....
