Slumber is a half Swedish half Persian atmospheric death/doom metal band based in Sweden. After releasing two demo's they have now given out their first debut full length album Fallout.

The album starts with the opening track Rapture, a mid-paced song with a melancholic atmosphere and depressive touch, almost leaning towards gothic/doom and the gothic influences are much clearer in the end of the song when we hear some backup female vocals (almost orchestral). The second track is more melodic and the guitar work immediately reminds me of mid-period Katatonia and the Katatonia influences are crystal clear. The overall atmosphere and feeling of this album also reminds me a bit of Rapture.

Such a great album. I didn't used to enjoy doom metal very much until this band introduced me to the melodic doom subgenre.

9.3/10 for me - Conflict is the best track, Rapture and A Wanderer's Star are also fantastic, and all other tracks are great IMO.

It's a good album, but I don't find it great, it has some nice atmospheric parts, and with a touch of melody. It reminds me of a more melodic version of Katatonia, the way the mid tempo riffs develop into a slightly depressive atmosphere.

Very enjoyable album, even catchy I dare say. Atmospheric, nice flow all throughout the album.

As a doom metal listener for almost 20 years, I must say that It's such a great unique album, it is the first album I couldn't find in the country so I bought from abroad and waited for a month to obtain a few years ago. It is a priceless, dark death doom product.

That means nothing really. The recent Insomnium had a similar score, as did the last Septic Flesh, they weren't worth more than 7ish. Any kind of melodic doom or melodeath gets absurdly high scores these days.

You sure know how to crush a little boy's big dreams, doncha?
Sadly, you're completely right. The first two listens revealed nothing spectacular, but I'll give it a bit more time before I rate it (and yeah, I feel a 7 coming).

EDIT: Ya, definitely a pretty good release, but not worthy of a 9.1 by any stretch of imagination.
Imma give it a strong 8.

10/10 for me, it is still one of my all time favourite albums 20 years later.
