I made this thread for discussions about the best video game console ever: Nintendo 64, released in 1996. Who never played such games like Zelda - Ocarina Of Time, the amazing multiplayer of Goldeneye 007/Perfect Dark or the great Super Mario 64? Let the nostalgia begin, share your moments and comments about this great system!

Well, I'd like to show my games collection. I have these since 2006.

The Legend Of Zelda - Ocarina Of Time
The Legend Of Zelda - Majora's Mask
Doom 64
007 The World Is Not Enough
Goldeneye 007
Turok 2
Perfect Dark
Catlevania 64
Star Wars - Shadows Of The Empire
Star Wars - Rogue Squadron

I remember the game I wanted more than anything in the entire world back then was Mother 3 (Earthbound 64) which was supposed to come out on the 64DD, which never materialised outside outside Japan (and only sold 15000 units). The game itself was never finished though.

I had never heard of the Earthbound series until the Ness character appeared in the Super Smash Bros. Mainly because neither of the first two games were released in Europe. Upon learning of the series, I tried to get hold of the games, without any success... lol

Well you could use an emulator and just download them? The SNES game is a lot of fun and a very quirky RPG.

Last game console I had. I remember wasting a whole summer on Goldeneye with some friends, probably one of the video games I played the most.

I remember spending countless hours playing Golden Eyes to. I have also the WII version at home and it's a really cool adaptation of the original.

The fact is that I never cared at all for James Bond or even FPS but this particular game and its mutiplayer mode really obsessed me for a while. Nowadays when friends try to get me into one of those ubercool modern FPS I can't help making comparisons with Goldeneye, and in the end I think it will always remain my favourite of the genre.
Never played the WII version though, might like to try sometime.

Watched some game footage. Can't say if it's good or not, both because that I don't played, and the adaptation looks like a Medal of Honor game. Nobody will never make excellents FPS's like Goldeneye and Perfect Dark.

Woah, Shadows Of The Empire was a totally awful game! That was quite possibly the worst game I ever played on the N64. Really horrible... And Castlevania 64, whilst not as bad as SOTE, is to date, still the worst Castlevania game I've played.

Maybe I should agree with you. The SOTE was very weird and cheap, but I remember that I spent countless hours playing that thing... One of my first experiences with games. The castlevania, well... I still like this one even more than the new ones. Maybe I am too nostalgic...

Anyone knows what happened to Rareware. Quality in gaming just dropped since they vanished.

I believe they make crappy Kinect games now. I read an article a while back saying they were concentrating on that market in the future.

Hmmm I have the emulator and I just found out I have Earthbound among all the other games it has... Maybe I should try it out considering Giygas gives me the creeps.

I never got that far into it but it's a nice little game. You should also download Chrono Trigger, Terranigma, Secret of Mana, Secret of Evermore, Final Fantasy 6 etc. too. Awesome time for the console RPG.

Rare made some of the best games EVER! N64 was one of my favorite game consoles ever. I loved wasting hours on it, only SNES took more time out of my childhood I think.

But N64 games that I loved were:

Super Smash Bros. (My all Time FAVE game!)
Goldeneye
Bomber Man
Chopper Attack 64
Ocarina of Time

That's because Samus can solo vs. a team of 3 with all of her damn super combos haha. She's a fucking bully and just dishes out the damage.

Needless to say, she was my fave character to play as well

I adored the N64 back when I was a kid. Two of my favorite games were Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie. Personally, I like Banjo-Tooie more. The worlds are much more expansive and there's more stuff to do.

Also, Goldeneye was the game that introduced me to the world of first-person shooters. It's seriously one of the greatest games of all time.

I think for story games I preffered the Playstation but nothing comes close to the N64 multiplayer. Mario Kart 64 was better than the original (and I'm usually old school when it comes to things like this, although I suppose now, any N64 game would be considered old school) and for me the best multiplayer game ever. It was so simple yet so addictive. Goldeneye comes a close second and The World is Not Enough was damn good too.

The N64 controller was superior to the playstation one at the time. The analogue stick was so much more precise and the trigger was an awesome touch. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned worn out analogue sticks yet actually, thinking about it makes me feel quite nostalgic, me and friends went through quite a few control pads.

I always preferred the SNES to the Mega Drive too. It's a shame Nintendo went downhill after the N64. I can't think of a Gamecube game that I liked apart from Rogue Squadron 2 and the Wii is just a gimmick, a novelty that wears off pretty quickly.

I was utterly perplexed by the shape of the N64 controller. Was it designed for an octopus child or something? However, I do remember back when I played the original Mario Party, they had mini-games that required you to rotate the analog stick. Your thumb would get worn out pretty quickly, so you had to use your palm, and that would end up giving you nasty blisters. I wasn't the only one. A whole bunch of parents complained that these mini-games gave their children blisters on their hands. When Mario Party 2 came out, they stopped adding mini-games that required you to rotate the analog stick.

As for the Gamecube, I really liked Pikmin, and I sunk so many hours into Animal Crossing I lost count. As for the Wii, my favorite game will always be Super Smash Bros. Brawl. However, I play that with the Gamecube controller. I hate using the Wiimote.

The N64 controller was pretty horrible in retrospect. Kudos for introducing the analogue stick to the world in a big way but it was really poorly designed; too long and difficult to be precise with which means you had to move the stick a long way to do smaller things and when added to the fact it had virtually no grip on the top meant your thumb would slip off pretty easily, not to mention the fact it lost its smoothness and became all sand-like after not long. I went through a bunch of N64 controllers because the stick became knackered. The PS1 analogue was far superior on every level.

The PS1 analogue was far superior on every level.

And obviously far more accurate. I can't count the times I've lost lives or even games to the N64 controller's inaccurate joystick. And if you're playing a game like Super Mario 64 with changing camera angles, it really fucks with your jumping accuracy.
