We all know the story by now. Following the disbanding of Celtic Frost after the widely-hailed Monotheist, metal torchbearer Thomas Fischer announced the formation of Triptykon, a new project that would be dedicated towards continuing on in the vein of the final Celtic Frost album. The band's Eparistera Daimones debut showed a glimpse of Fischer's remaining committment to writing ominous, crushing music. Now, in 2014, Melana Chasmata cements it.

Hmm, it started off solid and it just got boring. Am i the only one

Nope, don't think you're the Lone Ranger here. I think the first two tracks are brilliant but after that it's forgettable.

It really sounds a lot like Celtic Frost, which is not bad or surprising. I really love the dark and haunting atmosphere on this one. I didn't really know Triptykon before, but after all I heard about this album I had to listen to it myself and I'm totally blown away by the atmosphere the manage to create.

Tried to get into it a few times, but I guess I just don't "get it" =P
They do sound pretty original though, so I felt like rating it as good

Edit : Is this blackened thrash metal ? ! Actually is there any genre like blackened thrash metal ?

I urge you to listen to Destroyer 666 as Joe said, and I want to add Aura Noir, and Necrodeath.

ASAP

But seriously it has nothing to do with Triptykon though. Don't expect the same level of... Fischer. The three I mentioned are just your regular BM bands with added thrash elements that make it very fast and enjoyable. It's not heavy, well written, lyrically insteresting and balanced like modern Celtic Frost or Triptykon.

However, I'd like to dig the albums I still haven't checked them out. Thanks for the suggestion.

Really digging this album. I might even prefer it to the debut. So many highlights and crushing riffs but the female vocals really add an interesting touch to some of the songs. Need more listens, but it's amazing so far.

Nothing can surpass Monotheist. At least this is better than the debut.

I really like this quite a bit more than Eparistera Daimones. Everything's just so much tighter, and the production has quite a few slight differences that really suit the music.

Great album but can't surpass Eparistera Daimones.

Though I agree with the initial statement, this is more or less accurate because as Marcel said, CF and Triptykon are two different bands, and this album barely misses the quality and greatness of the debut.

I actually like both albums better than Celtic Frost. I'm going to hide now from the slew of things about to be thrown at me.

I am checking out Monotheist today. I was actually referring to their most commended albums: Morbid Tales and To Mega Therion. I just prefer the Triptykon records to those despite being classics.

I actually think the debut is stronger. I really dig this one but I just feel the debut is stronger. Dont know why though since the style is the same.

You'll see that Monotheist and those other two Celtic Frost albums have not much in common. And if you're a normally built human being, you'll find yourself liking Monotheist more than the two Triptykon ones. If not, then the I'll be the one throwing things at you .

Yes it's a serious threat.

Almost done listening now. This is very good stuff indeed. Perfect segway into Triptykon. My one gripe with all of these albums is that they are a bit overlong. I am not opposed to long albums or songs, but they drag out the same riffs a bit too often. That aside, this stuff is way better than just good.

If you've listened to the four Triptykon+Celtic Frost yesterday, and Monotheist today, I'd say that's perfectly normal. They are long albums, each of them.

No, I had previously listened to all of the Triptykon albums seperately. Monotheist is the only one I just listened to now. I just think they could trim a bit here and there to make it tighter, that's all. Bands like Opeth, Tool, Godflesh, etc. tend to keep my attention better on lengthier songs due to the various dynamics they include.

This album is below average but still slightly better than their debut.
An alternative metal album which mixed with industrial, doom, alternative and other different styles, only the 5th track sounds gothic. People rated this high due to paying respects to the elderly (Thomas).

EDIT: Okay so this album doesn't totally blow my mind, but I'm stupid in love with the song Boleskine House.
