I just got one of their albums...Annihilation Of The Wicked...the newest one...it's really good! it's so crunchy, down-tuned and there's lots of double-bass work...I'm glad I started getting into this band...

the problem of starting with such a good album as Annihilation of the Wicked, is that their older stuff will probably seem extremely weak.

I don't think he will have that problem. I find each Nile album having it's own unique style and mood. Their first was amatuer but really thrashtastic and rough, their sophmore release was really refined with a wicked raw edge, their third was matured a lot but with a lot of heaviness, and their latest offering is really aggressive and blindingly fast. To sum it up. They all bring something new, for me at least.

That's what I was gonna say.....every album is something different...a different side of Nile. I started with AOTW then later I heard their earlier material. I think I actually like their previous efforts better because of it.

I agree with Dream_of_Hate ... I too started of with AOTW and then moved to catacombs of nephren-k , followed by 'in their darkened shrines' and finally 'black seeds of vengeance' . And every album had its own effect on me , and every album impressed me as much as AOTW did. the theme was constant and they stuck to wat they wanted to do. One more thing i appreciate abt Nile , as a band is, in the beginning wen they used to play at clubs, none used to give a fuk abt their music, they were very udnerrated , and they also used to play some straight death metal jus for the money. but they stuck to their egyptian theme for a long time and finally it did pay off and now they are one of the respected bands around. for that i do respect them a lot.

jus another fact ... Nile's present bassisst also plays in Domination Through Impurity, another amazing technical death metal band.

I've been wondering about this question for awhile...Has Joe Payne become a permanent member? I know he was the bassist on the 2005 tour, but I read that he had become permanent.

I dunno and there's nothing mentionned in their website...
But Wiki says so :

"Joseph "Joe" Payne was born in Tampa, Florida in 1984. He is a bassist and guitarist of considerable talent, and plays bass in the Death Metal Band "Nile". He joined the band in early 2005 for the American and European tours after learning eleven Nile songs in only three days. Joe Payne has since taken on full time bassist duties for Nile. Joe Payne is also sponsored by Ampeg Amps, and Schecter Guitars and Basses.

Joe Payne and Nile are currently on their ANNIHILATION OF THE WICKED 2006 Tour with Hypocrisy, Soilent Green, Raging Speedhorn, Decapitated, With Passion."

Anyway Wikipedia is not that reliable...

That's where I read that he was a permanent member, but like you said...Wikipedia is not always reliable. No other source I've looked at has mentioned anything about it.

I remember reading on Nile's homepage some time ago that they recruited Joe Payne permanently, and thanked Steve Tucker who had agreed to fill in, but that they no longer required his services.

So, it is my understanding that Joe Payne is a permanent member.

dude, i read an interview of karl sanders and he mentioned in that interview that he's become a permanent member for Nile, but also would be sparing time for his side-project domination through impurity ... trying to find the link for it

Has anyone heard Lecherous Nocturne? It's a side project of Dallas Toler-Wade (Nile's guitarist) where he plays drums. Their website is up for renewal but you can listen to a couple of tracks off their EP on their Myspace page-

http://myspace.com/lecherousnocturne

As C-Dub mentioned in the Technical DM thread, Joe Payne (Nile's bassist) has a band called Domination Through Impurity. You can download tracks here-

http://www.dominationthroughimpurity.com/Media.html

Both bands sound really good and I want to get the word out, so I thought this would be the best place to do it, since these bands seem to be relatively unkown and a new thread for them would have been useless.

I love Nile. I hope to see them live at Waldrock. (That is, if I pass my schoolyear)

I only have 'In Their Darkened Shrines' but it is awesome.

I love the track: Unas, The Slayer Of The Gods.

@Nervel, they are quite an act live, so I hope you get to witness them I saw them on Mayday, and saying they tore the place apart would not be right, they obliterated the venue, like it was the Temple of the Enemies of Ra

You really should see Nile live. When I saw them there were initially a low number of people there and even though I arrived later than when the doors opened I easily managed to get front row, centre. Odd huh?

They're quite the brutal band....they're a great band to headbang to and all that and their material is solid and pounding right from beginning to end...there is no let up at all in their music from beginning to end...very reliable as far as brutal death metal is concerned...but...to me a lot of what they do is just grinding distorted noise...I'm sure it's hard to play what they play but seriously, folks...

Nile are one of my favorite death metal bands. i havent listened to them in quite a while though, so listening to them must be put on the top of my 'to do' list

the drumming on the new album still amazes me - it is just insane!
i wish i could see them live some time

If you only hear grinding noise, you're not digging deep enough. Nile is one of those bands you have to devote time to in order to enjoy to it's fullest extent. In my opinion.

@C-Dub: Well, I wasn't all negative...I did say some good things there

Maybe what I'm getting at is a lot of their transitions and seques to other compositions can sometimes lead one into relating it to grinding noise...beleive me, I have digged and devoted time...

@Kap'N Korrupt, well, devote more time And lose the "ok, let's try to get into this grinding noise" attitude, that helps too

And then there's the fact that some people never get into bands like Nile, and never get past the "grinding noise" stage.

Well, he tells some truth. When I was first getting into Nile, they seemed like a wall of noise somewhat. However, they come through pretty clear to me these days.

I just watched the clip for 'Sarcophagus', - which was the first song that i heard of them awhile ago - and really liked it. I didnt have any expectations for it, and the clip seemed to fit the mood/atmosphere of the music. Oh and they have a video for 'Sacrifice Unto Sebek' ... cool i'l give that a watch!

Be sure to check out their "Execration Text" video. You can find it on YouTube.com pretty easy.
