So, what is it? I just saw a horrible one last noght, I almost throw up, it was that bad. The actress in the lead role was ugly as hell, and the whole thing was like a big puddle of mud. BTW the title was Call Girl

Very true, but still DD is a good movie.

I don't think it's a bad movie, but it's certainly overrated.

Crank for sure, I didn't even bother with the second.

Nothing could prepare you for the second one trust me. Completely different films. I actually didn't think the first one was that bad. It was just mega lame.

Heh, I'm not going to bother. The funniest bit from the first was jason statham going at it with his gf in the middle of china town.

I don't think it's a bad movie, but it's certainly overrated.

Anything that gets mainstream success is generally hyped up beyond belief so that when you do see it it isnt anywhere near as good as if you went in with lower expectations.

I'm calling bullshit on this. I'm not an idiot and certainly wouldn't be blinded of a movie's shittiness by such shallow means. >_> And I hope you're intelligent enough yourself to be the same.

Edit: I mean, am I understanding your statement correctly? It's worded kinda weird. D:

The way I am reading it is that when things are so heavily hyped the sometimes go onto sucess even if they're subpar or worse, which is true imo.

Right. But he used the term "you" when he quoted Troy saying that "it wasn't that bad"... Which leads me to believe he thinks we are or can be all fooled by hype or other fabrications.

Well, I saw the first half of Napolean Dynamite some years agol; had to leave halfway through because it was such an awful movie. Don't remember the details of it much, just remember a bunch of 'randonness' that was supposed to be funny but came of as facepalm inducing. Awful Bloody Awful.

Well yea, he made a hasty generalization about the public, which is largely true. Sure they wont fool everyone, and I've refused to see some movies because of hype, but my friends will still try to sucker me into going anyway and I have to resist the hype.

Im not saying I dont watch mainstream movies. I'm just saying that hype can destroy a film. If you go in with over the top expectations, It can ruin a film. For example, avatar. If nobody had've said anything about it, I may have enjoyed. I would have thought it was an ok popcorn movie. But all these critics were saying its the best thing ever when It's got basically the same plot as the majority of disney films.
But then again, Inception and the Departed were hyped up beyond belief, but enjoyed them.

Oh, ok. So you didn't mean what I thought. Well... I guess I can agree with you somewhat, even though I just tend to enjoy things because I enjoy them. Not because someone else does. I am a very skeptical person though when it comes to to movies, music, and videogames though, so I'm almost never very disappointed.

The newest one is actually pretty decent. They have a plot, a decent script, and only one drag race. I was forced to watch it and I actually enjoyed it lol.

I know? The fact that they copied and pasted the italian jobs plot and added more shootouts and car chases is irrelevant...

Agreed on the Crystal Skull... as for the Star Wars prequels I actually don't mind them. The second and third one especially have some noteworthy moments and while all three are largely nonsense script and character-wise I think they did an ok job at maintaining the Star Wars feel. I suppose it's not that hard to do, all you need is the music and few lightsaber and blaster battles.

Donnie Darko & Unglorious Bastards. No matter how many times i've seen them, still unable to understand what the heck are about..

I haven't seen Inglorious Basterds, but Donnie Darko is a very very good film that absolutely lives up the the hype and I think I have a pretty good understanding as to what it is about. Now to be honest, Donnie Darko can be a bit obscure, but most of it's plot and it's themes are not beyond comprehension like some other films that people like to pretend have meaning that I could mention. Aside from the A-plot, which I think is quite easy to follow, the movie is about how people like to deal with big problems by pretending that they aren't so big in the first place. The key scenes that make this obvious are the the lifeline card exercise scene (life is all about love and fear and nothing else) and the self-help guru's talk in Donnie's school, where Patrick Swayze's character also suggests that all complicated problems can be solved by accepting love and rejecting fear. The truth is that many of the problems that people offer simplistic solutions to, don't in real life even have complicated solutions, they may have no solutions at all. The ending of the film - which in my opinion makes no sense no matter how you think about it - works so well, because it falls into the category of the unsolvable problems that the film is about. It may very well be that we cannot ever perfectly explain the ending and we have to deal with it, just like we have to deal with unsolvable problems in real life. And pretending that big problems are really not big at all, is not the way to do it. To make this point, the film also contrasts effective attempts at problem solving (Donnie's psychiatrist) with ineffective attempts (the self-help dude). One can imagine that if Patrick Swayze's character had turned to a psychiatrist, then he might have been able to defeat his addiction to child pornography - a big problem, which his own self-help techniques absolutely couldn't solve.

That's my two cents. I haven't actually seen Donnie Darko in years, so I might be able to elaborate on it more sometime later, after having revisited it.

There were three moments that I liked in the SW prequels: when episode I ended and the screen went black, when episode II ended and the screen went black and when episode III ended and the screen went black. Oh God, how I loved it when it was over.

Anyone seen Mega Shark VS Giant Octopus? If you haven't, which is likely, then this is why you should

Oh boy, oh boy, I love The Asylum! In a weird way.... I think it's complete crap with some whipped cream of complete lameness on the top. Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopuss is one of the lamest movies ever! It has everything a bad film needs: horrible actors (come on Lorenzo Lame-ass), catastrophic script, trying to sound sciency but it does not and some mega mega terra giant animals - a shark and an octopuss - that are of different sizes in each scene. Once a mega shark is as big as a 30m long ship, in the next scene it's 200m long eating a plane, then about 500m eating golden bridge, while octopuss is about 20m long in the beginning, and about 120 when it fights the shark.... Srsly????

BUT.... I wouldn't be me if I hadn't taken the honour of watching the sequel: Mega Shark Vs. Crocosaurus, starring none other than Steven Urkel as the super smart special marine shark-expert. That was aslo a whole bunch of nonesense, just like vs. octopuss.

And.... Of course yesterday I saw The Asylum's Moby Dick:2010, starring a real life movie star Barry Bostwick. Basically, the film is what all Asylum's are: a giant 150m completely evil, sharp toothed giantly enormously giant sperm whale. Very evil. Malice. He just jumps around and eats other whales, trees, people and ships. OMG that's such a piece of sh.it.

But... What can I say, I am (unconsciously?) attracted to these stupid films. When I hear that something features an out of porportions large animal, with beast like qualities and pure malice, that has no reason whatsoever - it's just evil - I gotta see it. I have about 10 such stupid films downloaded and ready to watch, none of which made it pass 3.0 score on IMDB.
I need a new hobby.
