yeah there were some tough times here too, some stupid newspaper posted an article about "satanism in tunisia" really scary but totally out of truth, then there was some action against metal heads in the media, by the police but it wasn't that serious, some guys were took to the police departement,answered some questions then released.The case went cold now.

We get such crap on an annual basis here, as you know we have "L'Boulevard" and each year it is the same babble in some newspapers, quite similar to the one you posted. It's only newspaper shock talk.. Not just that, if you noticed it is the 6th edition of the newspaper, just seekin for fame by posting shock talk like you said,and, they pretty much achieved it, when i tried to buy a copy, i was told that they were sold out!

I went yesterday to a gig for a band called "Gene" they do Rock mainly but they did some progressive stuff that really kicked ass I think you guys should try them if you can get anything for them.

I have never been to any gig in the Middle East, I have even avoided a Rock/Metal (I have no idea what it was) that was held in Kuwait last year.

The main reason that I avoid them is b/c of the crowd, I do not know what to expect. Abroad is just different, most of the people are just friendly and nice, none of that "bad ass" attitude.

So, if my assumptions are wrong please enlighten me.

I've been once in a rock concert, was ok-ay in terms of going to a cafe with friends and spend a good time togather......

Nothing much annoying frankly..... but you know, still people are in need to know/learn more about a positive culture for being in a concert in here................. sigh

The band was playing bad frankly speaking, but there are good bands plays, I haven't been in any.........

Personally I like Lebanese bands, I know two of them who are superbs..... one is Kameara (spelling) [featured here] the other one is Blood Ink [Core metal, but indeed a superb one]

you are mostly right I have been to a couple of Rock/Metal gigs here and it was a total disaster, people entered just to have fights and this type of shit, but some concerts that have a somehow expensive entrance fee have mostly people who understand what they are coming to watch and you can know that the band is gonna play good...but u still find those dumb rich people who still enter just coz its a gig I HATE THOSE PEOPLE, but the gig I was talking about was really good, I had fun and the band was exceptionally good...

Your assumptions are correct and I've been to many local gigs to confirm it.

That's why now I prefer attending to classical music / Jazz concerts !

as i know about Persian Golf's Arabic countires, i dont recommend any band to come there, the situation of the ppl there r very terrible ! maybe 1000 years later !

It sucks, it would be nice once in a while just to go to a local concert and simply have fun.
I've been looking at some local bands' websites/mysapce pages to see what's going on and it seems that well nothing really is happening, and the q8metal is down,

On another note, Amine remember that pic I had at facebook in my office? yesterday a co-worker's little daughter came to visit with her mother, and for the better part of the visit I won her over and started making fun of the other girls, hahaha, until with a desperate measure one of them took her to my cubical and the girl went like "who's the crazy person who works here?" hahaha, and I thought the colors might make a "happy" atmosphere

So I went this weekend to Virgin Megastore to pick up some CDs, it is safe to say walked out of the store with nothing,,, sad in the metal sections there were CDs by Sum 41, Train, Avril Lavigne, Tokyo Hotel... meh sad.

Then I thought let me shop on line and place a mail order, only to discover the bank had blocked my card for suspicious transactions and they were right, my new card did not make it, so they cancelled it and issued me a new one… man seems like I will not buy any CDs till next month

They started that in Kuwait several years back both on audio and video, and I m still buying my $3 video

Basically they ignore the rule deal under the counter and if they get caught their business is closed for some time and they pay a fine, but the reopen and do the same thing.

The problem we have in the Middle East, I’ll speak for Kuwait, that even if the government declares new laws and regulations the citizens and non citizens do not follow them, they don't care. Like last May a law was instated for prohibiting driving and speaking on the phone if not using an ear piece. A guy was stopped by the police for using his phone, but when they stopped him he had no phone in his possession. Later we learned that the guy threw his phone outside the window as it is cheaper to buy a new phone vs paying the fine sad, no?

the tunisian way is to bribe the officer,it's so common that they nomore call it bribe,I witnessed it many times,drivers and officers have codes to communicate and negociate about the bribe.
well in here there is no law concerning audio and video copyrights,and small stores are not alone in it,even big markets and malls are involved,I always see tourists surprized,exploring the libraries of one dollar DVDs,one dollar video games,one dollar application compiles...

Oh depends.. it's been a long time since I bought any because all they are new movies.. but they are DVD rips with menus and subtitles and everything... They just delete the bonuses from time to time to make the "heavy burning" quicker... Or you could something get a screener.

Not that I'm supporting it.. but without piracy here I won't even know what is Metal, (and plenty of other stuff).

well you can also aquire a burned DVD with all the bonus plus printed covers and on disc prints on some places for 2$,I personally prefer it that way because I prefer movies in english and it's not common in stores to rip the DVD in english,I think the current average income in most arab countries will never give the possibility for strict e copyright rules.
