So who's looking forward to Skyrim and why? And I'm sure that Staff will want this to count as THE Skyrim thread when it comes out so once it's out what are your thoughts on it? I just recently got Oblivion and have been playing it and it's pretty kool, I like it so far and I'm pretty sure I want Skyrim. So since I'm thinking of getting Skyrim I'm not sure if I want to go ahead and run through Oblivion first (which I realize will take me a long time) and then get Skyrim or if I want to just go ahead and get Skyrim and play through that [since it's not actually a direct sequel to Oblivion I shouldn't really be adversely affected by not playing Oblivion first] and then maybe one day go back and finish Oblivion, lol. What are other's thoughts?

My biggest complaint I think is the map. The map is freakin retarded, whoever thought that was a good design for a map system is fn retarded...

You get used to it, I was confused and frustrated for the first couple days, but I actually prefer it now. It looks a little clunky at first, but once you get used to it, the way it shows elevation changed and such are really useful when travelling. I personally like the new map.

How's everyone's progress? Got about 40 or so hours into it and currently level 30 with the Thieves' Guild completed and a good chunk through the Dark Brotherhood. My dual-sword (well technically one sword and one mace but a sexy knife for stealth kills) and bow wielding ninja Khajiit is rather invincible at the moment. Now I've got Stealth to 100 with all the perks he's much more efficient at Ninjaring.

Actually it looks like I've completed the Dark Brotherhood quests. Might as well carry on with the Companions quests and funk some shiz up with the Werewolf power which I've not really used much (at all actually).

@JOOE.

I found a pretty cool way to get archery to 100

Faendal of Riverwood trains archery. If you complete a mini quest invloving camilla, he can become your follower.
Once following, train archery with him, and then you can ask to trade items with him, and get your money back.

OR you can pickpocket the trainers or even kill some of them.

Also theres a decent money glitch, where theres a book that keeps respawning.

Nice. My wood elf is only level 14 right now, working on mastering block. As it stands right now I can beat most human-sized things to death with my shield. When that fails I just use the one-handed war axe. I finished the Companions (which is strikingly similar to a combination of some of the fighters guild & dark brotherhood quests from Oblivion). At the moment I'm just trying to finish all the quests in Whiterun.

It must take a while to do all the little missions, everyone who you talk to seems to have a mission associated with them o.O

I was worried about leveling up to quickly but because I'm concentrating only on a few specific skillsets it takes longer to increase their individual levels when they get past 50 or so.

Level 19 Imperial with high speech, destruction (I think that's what its called... massive mental blank), duelwielding and Lockpicking.

One thing I was kind of hoping for was more dialogue choice and consequence like in the fallout series. It would be nice to tell that werewolf fucker in the dark brotherhood to go fuck a pencil sharpener as well, but oh well.

I agree, especially as it was promised the dialogue would be more in line with that of Fallout.

Been messing about with mods that have been released. The best one so far is the one that improves the textures of indoor furniture like tables and cupboards which for me were the biggest give away of poor texturing, they looked hideous. They look nice now. The more detailed face and no more blocky face ones are nice too. Of course there's also the obligatory "nude" mods but I haven't tried those yet.

Actually I recommend any PC Skyrimmers to install this mod: http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=131, though I'd advise disabling the garish Tonemap and Technicolour options unless you want Skyrim to look like a Disney film (though the undersaturated version looks kinda cool and gloomy). It removes all the blurring present making the game far, far sharper, crisper and prettier with little (for me) performance issue, aside from perhaps a tiny bit of lag in busy town areas.

It's kinda funny that dozens of professionals working for years couldn't do what what one person in a few days could, i.e. make the game look suitably next gen.

For a long time I haven't spent hours completely sunk into a game.

I know exactly how you feel. On Saturday I spent a good 10 hours playing lol.

I can't get more than an hour per day, when I get the time it's always someone bugging me, in order to get the time needed I'd have to sacrifice sleep.

I'm playing an Argonian character, using one handed weapons and the bow, light armor, I guess the basic thief/ranger template. But I like the illusion line.
My weak laptop is fucking me up, several times I get shot at and I can't see where it's coming from.

Nude argonians are awesome. But my pc couldn't run it, so im playing it on ps3, and apparently it runs better than on 360...

But the mods were by far the best part of oblivion, especially the mod that changed the opening mission to one where you come in on a pirate ship, and chose completely new classes that changed your starting gear. Is there anything like that yet?

Race doesn't mean much in the longrun. Whatever class you want, it'll be easy enough to merge them into whatever you want.

Nude Argonian? o.0 You twisted lizard lover...

Nothing like that it seems, I'm guessing it'll take a while for people to develop stuff like that. Just stuff like weapon and armour retexturing, a few cheats and bugs fixes but nothing amazing (bar the graphical improvement one). Currently using one that changes the font from the strangely modern one they used to a more appropriate and atmospheric one, a "clean bodies" one that stops the women looking dirty, better blood, one that improves the look of the night sky and a few others I think. Nothing spectacular so far.

I've gotten used to it and I have learned how to work with it and I do also like the fact that it's 3D because yes that definitely helps with figuring out what the best way to get to the objective is when it's at the top of a mountain but what I really hate is that it's got that annoying 3rd person over the shoulder view effect going on so it's limited in what you can see. Like if I wanna travel around to the different shops and sell a bunch of loot and I'm going from [for example] Windhelm to Whiterun I have to use the "Show on map" feature with a couple different quests until I find one that puts the map view in range to get the cursor on Whiterun for fast travel. Or if I need to go to Markarth for a quest, you can use the "Show on map" but with the "camera" angle you still can't actually get the cursor to Markarth without zooming all the way out and then you have to put the cursor in just the right spot so that it barely highlights Markarth and then you can fast travel. It's fukn annoying. If they would've combined the 3D idea with the full map view of Oblivion that would've been perfect imo.

Werewolf power?! So you can actually become a werewolf?! How?! Is it something that you get from completing Dark Brotherhood quests or is there something special you have to do/find to become a werewolf? I was hoping that there would be an opportunity to become werewolf. Has anyone become vampire yet, does it work the same as in Oblivion or did they get rid of the sunlight immunity?

You get it very early on in the Companion missions in Whiterun.

Yeah I think someone posted it on here. It's amusing to do but to be honest I've never needed to. Stealing is something that's extremely easy in Skyrim, not to mention the fact there's usually little worth stealing in people's houses and shops.

True. It's still endlessly funny seeing someone with a bucket on their heads carrying out a normal conversation. I had an extremely weird glitch occur today. I was on a mountain near saarthal or whatever that place is called. I was fighting some storm cloaks, wasnt watching, and I walked backwards off the mountain, falling to what should have been my death. However, just before I landed, this mammoth flung itself underneath me like it was magnetised, I landed on it, and we both flung up extraordinarily high. I could walk around on the mammoth, but couldnt go anywhere else. It was very strange.

You can only join one or the other. However, as long as you havent reached a certain point, you can still change, but I can't remember what that point is.
