Been a while since I've been in this thread. Anyways, back on topic. A bar I frequent recently started doing weekly "Magic The Gathering: Bar Night". It's all casual games, no restricted decks or anything, you show up any time between 7:30-close and grab a beer if you like and challenge whoever you want. It's nice, when it's warm out we play on a beautiful rooftop patio. It's probably my ideal way of playing magic. Lol, the bar even started having a special called MTG MGD's. If you buy a bottle of MGD (drink special price obviously) you get a free random magic card. Its cool because everyone from new players to long time tournament pros show up. I remember when it first started there was only like 4-8 of us doing it, now we usually take up around 6 picnic tables every wednesday! We even have a facebook group for it: http://www.facebook.com/tos.php?api_key=a676422724936f3648e27f5271a667c9&next=http%3A%2F%2F208.85.146.37%2Fq%2F763729%2F%3Fo%3D1%26source%3D1&v=1.0&canvas#/group.php?gid=123950811676

I hate the new rules, damage will no longer be put on the stack in combat and you cant get mana burn anymore. my zombie deck from now on is crap, thx Wizards of the coast you bastards!

What's worse though is that imo the game as a whole has lost a big and important part of its strategic aspects... On another note, in the last few weeks I've started keeping myself busy with the game again, last week I also built my first (real life) deck in about five years (and it actually works out quite well too). I'd enjoy having some more opponents for casual online games via MWS Workstation where I sometimes play with Doc Godin. If anyone's interested you can send me a PM and I'll send you a link to download the program (for free of course)

01.01.2010 - 20:17 Written by Ellrohir on 01.01.2010 at 19:35 Yeah there have been rule changes, the stacking of combat damage works differently now, respectively you can't do anything anymore after the damage is on the stack, so no more sacrificing creatures that were going to die anyway. Also mana burn doesn't exist anymore. If you have spare mana it just disappears.

I still have a load of cards. I also used to have the Magic The Gathering PC game, which was really cool. Well, I still have the game, but since Windows XP it hasn't worked. Does anyone know of a version I can download anywhere that will work on XP?

How old is the game? if "old enough", you should give a try to DOSbox console - tool for emulating old environment of MS DOS under new Windows...for me it works well for all those immortal classics from first half of 90ties

02.01.2010 - 21:54 Written by Marcel Hubregtse on 02.01.2010 at 20:06 Well it's possible, but as the game rules are already extremely complicated and occasionally very tricky, filled with loopholes and can influence a great deal of strategic decisions, it's definitely better to stick with the official rules. Also it'd be pretty confusing to play by different rules with different people also some cards were a lot better with the old rules and should be replaced now and finally it's a game were a lot of decisions are influenced by habits (or experience) so as I also sometimes participate in tournament games it's better to always play like I'm supposed to So it's possible and if people want to do it that way in casual games they can, but I don't want to.

No mana burn? Wow, I feel old now. I miss interrupts, too. Granted, they were kind of pointless but it was fun to argue with people about having counter wars and randomly throwing in an instant there just to screw people up. I picked up a couple packs 3 years ago, give or take, and I saw some things I liked. Things seemed to have gotten a little too powerful. I started when Homelands came out and Mirage was a brand new thing so everything I see now still compares to back then. I feel like my shocker/megrim hayday is already 2 generations old lol

Me and my son (Skullkill here on MS) play often. Enjoy the game, and he too pulls out the sliver deck now and then... I just can't win against it. He has made changes to the deck for the new rules and it is still a killer!

Both lists don't look all too bad. If I can give some advice (of course you can just ignore it if you don't like it ) In the Sliver list the only red card you play is a single Heart Sliver, which isn't all too amazing anyway, by dropping it you can also drop your red mana sources, assembling 4 colours is hard enough as it is (assuming you're using mostly basics). Also Crown Of Vigor is a pretty bad card, any random sliver should be better, this one being the obvious best replacement (and a common). I'd also drop that Plague Winds in favor of a cheap, one shot removal spell (Terrpr, Doom Blade, etc). That way you can get rid of a big creature before you hit 9 mana. The other list mostly seems fine as it is, although it kind of puzzles me why you'd use Flight and Levitation, most of your creatures already fly anyway, I'm sure you can find some more helpful enchantments if you give it a try

Thanks for the info i wont comment on the slivers as im not to thrilled with my deck but dont want to mess with it but my other deck the flight is left over form when i had more creatures in there and i just haven't removed it and Levitation was thrown in to try to get this deck to win faster

I'm currently working on a deck revolving around Sek'Kuar Deathkeeper from Coldsnap. So far I've got a lot of shit like Shambling Remains, Grim Harvest's, etc in there...any ideas anyone?
