Well I've been buying DVD's lately, I'm proud to have such classics as Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Dead Alive...but I was wondering which movies are in your top 5 or top 10...any Horror movie dudes, it doesn't matter if it's zombies, ghosts, monsters or slahers
My top 5 goes more o less like this:
#5: Cabin Fever (I just can't get enough of watching stupid kids spreading a flesh eating disease, yeah it's way in the line of Evil Dead but it's just too cool and the girls have great boobs)
#4: Day Of The Dead (Romero's third installment in his trilogy, a great piece actually, the last scene is just sickening)
#3: Dawn Of The Dead (Damn it...it's just...amazing)
#2: Dead Alive: (Peter Jackson did this? god damn it he was a gory motherfucker...the goriest film I've ever seen)
#1: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (The master of Slasher films)
There are other good films I love, some of them are still on my "to buy list" and on my "please stop renting them or you'll end up begging for money in the streeths"
-Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer (Damn, this is chilling)
-Suspiria (Masterpiece)
-The Night Of The Living Dead
-Evil Dead
-Curtains
some others...which ones are your favorites

Anyone seen "Suspiria"? That's a rather scary piece by Dario Argento....made in Germany in Freiburg...near the Black Forest.....

Nope, I haven't seen it, but I don't watch horror movies very often, but I believe I've visited the place. So maybe would be interesting to see.

#5 Braindead (alternative title Dead Or Alive. very funny but still kinda horror)
i saw some "gore trailers" on youtube but still dont understand how this comedy can be even called "horror" does hundreds of liters of synthetic blood really the horror? than the "Man from Acapulco" (or at least this one scene in the Aztec pyramid) will be the second best horror
its not a regular comedy movie anyone would like to see. but Evil dead 2 and 3 are thesame. those are hillarious horror/gore movies
but I would say they can be called horror, but mainly comedy

I agree with the things said about Braindead, it is comedy but not "Jim Carrey" comedy see? it's horror/comedy hehehe.

"horror comedy" doesnt exist IMO...the film is either seriously taken horror or a funny parody (well or "Hollywood horror with "cool & funny" quotes", ok ) ...but you wanna say me, i should be afraid of Critters or Gremlins? show me one scary moment in here, but i show you hundred joke moments...

I'm so glad that you mentioned Gremlins...actually, the first movie was supposed to be all horror, but it went awfully wrong, it was supposed to be a movie about those things being mini slashers created by the japanese goverment or something...then they saw it was like funny and then decided to add the Snowwhite scene and the bar scene but for example, the scene where they kill an old lady in her weird chair was on the original script, as well as the final scene where they kill the last gremlin and some others.
anyway, Horror Comedy might not be an official genre per-se, but common sense do tells us that there are many movies that are horror themed but executed as a comedy, let's talk again about Braindead, Zombies is a horror theme, no matter the plot or whatever you want...Zombies will be always HORROR....always....then you add a funny plot and a funny script you got yourself a comedy..the final result is obvious.
now...maybe the problem here is we don't have the horror genre definition in our minds constantly...Horror is not supposed to be really scary, that's TERROR...Horror is supposed to be GROSS, to be Gore and all that shit.
now I'm going to close with a golden stripe, Horror fans and Horror experts must now one of the oldest and most controversial horror studios, Troma, Troma brought us a lot of the most cheesy and funny films that are supposed to be horror but end up being awfully funny...If you don't really know what Troma is and if you still think there's not such thing as "Horror Comedy" please check such titles as "The Toxic Avenger", "Redneck Zombies", "Bloodsucking Freaks" and maybe "Tromeo And Juliet"
I rest my case.

we call it horror comedy officially from now on. or crossover horror...
show me one scary moment on scream or dawn of the dead, I cant find any. what you find scary isnt immediatly horror

Try "Begotten"....it's a black and white silent film which looks as if made in the 1920s, however, it was made in 1992 or so....
It's difficult to understand, very surreal and psychedelic....I don't know whether to call it a horror film or not...it's more like some avant-garde or surrealism stuff...it's very similar to the silent film of Salvador Dali and co "Dog of Andalusia"......

It does have sound....the sound's either an ethereal music similar to Enigma's works or simply the voices of the grasshoppers singing in the night.....

The last man on earth with vincent price is always a favourite of mine. Based on the book 'I am legend' its currently being remade into a film of the same name starring will smith. If you like post apocalyptic films and vampires its definately one to check out.

Actually, I'm not quite sure if I can judge it so fast. After all, Barker will again be writing the script and cooperating in the whole film processing... And I think that is what the films 3-8 had needed.
At first I was like: oh, it's gonna be crappy! Like all horror-remakes are, but... Well, let's just say I'm hoping for the best. And of course to see Bradley wear that latex suit AGAIN! and omfg Chatterer again

Okay, so I'm a big horror movies fan. Always have been. I had a very hard time writing this list, 'cuz there's so many movies I'd love to have on it. Well well, here's my top 5 list:
5. Cabin Fever
If you like Evil Dead you'll like this one. It's really stupid, funny and of course full of gore and blood.
4. The Hills Have Eyes (2006)
I fucking love this movie! Good acting, great effects, scary atmosphere... yeah. everything a scary movie usually don't have! I think it's very underestimated.
3. Army of Darkness
Hahaha, I love the ED movies! This one is just so damn cool and... well, it's a real movie retard!
2. Night of the Living Dead
Romero is the fucking king, and his first movie will always be his best! Although it's not scary at all, the atmosphere is damn haunting.
1. Psycho
Some of you might consider it to be a thriller, I'd say a horror thriller. Awesome plot, I'm just a big Norman Bates fan!

Gosh, I really need to think hard now, cause I've seen so many horrors - they used to have really great horrors on one of our TV stations years ago on fridays and I saw so many of them, but don't know the titles... so here it somehow goes:
5) The Omen - I am generally totally keen on horrors which have to deal with the Devil and his manifestation on Earth
4) Halloween (Carpenter's of course) - Michael Myers totally rocks, I'm not a big fan of shalshers though, but this one is just... Awesome!
3) Hellbound - of course, the second, brilliant part of Hellraiser and of course the story that follows indirectly to first part; love it all, the characters, the story, the way Hell was suppose to look like
2) The Exorcist - for me, a totally blow-my-mind-away movie; refers to what I said about The Omen. A true classic which has been among my faves for years now
and of course
1) Hellraiser - I'm totally all over this film, I also love the novella, but film is IMO way better and I love Pinhead, he's my all time fave villain (even though he is not a ''true'' villain till 3rd part); I love the story, the philosophy behind it, the action figures and I hope I'm gonna be able to get the comics too
So that's about it. Oh yea, #6 would probably be Jackson's Braindead. That movie is just freaking... awesome
Oh and guys, I have a favour to ask: I have never been keen on zombie horrors, I've only seen Night Of The Living Dead and Evil Dead so far, so can you recommend me any good zombie movies? That would be really swell
Cheers!

Well girl I'll be glad to recommend you the best Zombie movies I've ever seen...
To begin with, and to warm your eyes up just check the following:
"Dawn Of The Dead" the best Romero film, intese, sadistic and gory.
"Dead-Alive" the only peter jackson film that's totally worthwhile...
and uhm...I guess I'll talk about more films once you give opinions on those mentioned

I saw Brainded already, it's a fucking great movie, that's why I decided I need to see more zombie movies, I've seen some as a kid (well, in the mid-teens) but was never really drawn to them, but Brainded got me totally all over zombies now. And I don't wanna watch any crappy zombie movies (like The Plague) again cause then I'm gonna lose all my interest in it as well I think Braindead is one awesome movie, half of the movie I was laughing my ass off and there were even moment when I almost vomitted to some scenes; and it had great story behind it. So Dawn of The Dead is up next since you both have recommened it.
Thankies & cheers

I watched The Hills Have Eyes 2 last weekend, and it's even better than the first one more mutants and way more blood shame Hostel didn't turn out the same way though, I love the first one so much but Hostel II was the biggest letdown.

I fell asleep watching the second one. The first one I found to be very trite. The original film was actually somewhat decent. But the remake, and the sequel, were too much about blood and guts and extreme violence than actually frightening moments.
I'll grant that the trailer scene in the first one was pretty freaky, but that is where it ended. Personally, I am sick of the crazy person/people in the woods/desert concept in films.
