Depends on the period of Soviet-era....Stalinist dictatorship was a nightmare for millions....after Chruistseobh the situation started to improve and from there on Soviet Union was one of the world powers....old people who were young back then, usually think good bout the situation back then...the society was functioning well and there was development.....only in the end of the 80ies there was an economic collapse much like in the US now or even worse....then it was really hard because you could go to a shop and there was emptiness....no food, no goods, nothing available for the people....then the financial collapse and stuff....and finally the Soviet Union fell apart....the countries of former USSR developed into capitalist states, Russia serving as the US of the Eastern Hemisphere, with society collapsed, a lot of things left in ruins and with mafia and serious organised crime....most countries had their previous communist politicians rise to power under the aegis of "democracy" and the situation is more or less similar all around the former Eastern block, maybe except from the Baltic states which were always more developed and more successful even during the Soviet era....
Baltic states, to be honest, were considered "Soviet West" because of their position and because of the investments made into this region....Baltic states were numerously awarded with the titles of best economic countries, best industrial centres and best culture centres because of the nice medieval heritage and the culture of the Baltic peoples....

Nowadays the Baltic states, of course still in relatively better position than Russia, are suffering of severe post-Soviet stress.....while being the "Soviet West" and the most developed countries within the USSR, the Baltic states are now, unfortunately, "just another bunch of poor Eastern block countries" who buy all the leftovers from the West-European market, who have lost the industry, the agriculture, whose people are emigrating to Ireland, Finland and Scandinavia in order to get paid normally, where the former communist politicians have sold or pawned most of important state properties and put the money in their own pockets....what adds spice, is the thing that the politicians wash people's brains all the time that "IT WAS BAD...in USSR" and also, the young people who were born in the 80ies, that is, during the collapse and crisis era, remember life in the USSR as poor and on the brink of disaster.....therefore there are lots of young people who are suffering from sick anger towards, lets say Russians, some suffer from pro-nazism, believing that nazi occupation would've been better than soviet one and well.....fact is....Soviet era had it's minuses....the beginning was bloody and the ending was bitter....this was the time...there's no reason to commit one's life to reminding how bad it all was.....
Baltic states should be lead by positive and constructive politicians who harmoniously lead the states towards welfare state and help and support the citizens and maintain good relations with neighbouring countries.....

I wasn't there because i caught something like flu yesterday. But one of my friends took part in all that. He was a simple watcher and could tell me all about that. But probably you have seen all that on news.
Today everything is cleaned up and only some broken windows and only some stones from street pavement seem to be put in quite a short time ago (fresh sand can be seen).

Anyway, people deserve such a little pleasure for that great billion loan (who is going to give it away? Ordinary Latvian citizens of course).

It's not legal to drink alcohol in public places and to buy/sell it from 10 PM to 8 AM. But it's not after this "event". As far as i remember, this law exists even some years!
About law-courts...probably there will be something but I don't understand who will sue who. Everyone is blaming everyone and everything looks like a total mess. No wonder that Latvia is in such deep ass.
Organisers say that nothing illegal happened in their meeting but everything started after that and they nothing in common with riot. Politicians blame them...and so on.
Probably you know what kind of politicians we got. Prime minister is like a little capricious child - i want this, i wan't that, you won't do that because I DON'T want that! President is nothing actually - in fact he is even silly. Lots of ministers are quiet "interesting" too. Probably you have heard about our Slakteris...who's he? Nothing special, indeed

Its only in Rīga, we in A-kraukle can drink it i street, or im stupid because many times I drink and cops didnt touch me, dunno, but our ''pa?valdiba'' did not make such law

Blaim socialdemocrtats, they ban sitting in grass, ther eno other place in whole Europe wher epeople cant sit in grass ...

It's not so bad theoretically. You can sit in the grass on most of the parks. Only some central parks have some rules against that because of quantity of people. That's all.
But practically everything isn't easy at all. All parks are full of dog shit. Nice, yeah?

I did not see any dog shits in Milano parks but saw many dogs there but its ridicilus if you cant sit in VecRīga park near cannal and watch ducks

About airport area, yes its sucky, I lost there once to when we driveing buy car, and non can explain in plular latvian where's wright turn , so I use only bus but I hate Pārdaugava, specaly Iļģuciems

You just reminded me of movie's "Home Alone" 3rd part, where the boy had a fake gun too, hehe. Can't wait for Jāņi. So much beer, bonfire and lots of tasty meat.

I know my town better than anyone. Actually, I can't understand how can someone get lost here... the town is not so big. Actually it's so small that there's no place where to walk (I mean nice forests or meadows).
