i want the most EPIC rpg in history(no MMORPG's thank you). so far the best RPG i've played was Morrowind, but it wasn't as epic as i wanted. i want something that can put Morrowind +all the expansions, Might and Magic VII, VIII and IX, WoW, Knights of the Old Republic 2, Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy, (yes those are all of the RPG's i've played so far) all combined to shame in terms of epicness. also, preferably to be a medieval-type game(i'm not really interested in mythological, or sci-fi stuff, but if it involves time travel, i'm cool with that). can anyone help?

try the baldurs gate saga... epicness is subjective anyway, but if I had to suggest a game that could make it for anybody, that's bg

Account deleted Written by Valentin B on 31.05.2008 at 10:34 well, you can take buggy's advice and get balders gate. You can also look into a game called Planescape torment ,which is looked at by alot of people as the greatest rpg ever made.and it has to be on my top 5,its an old black isle infinity engine isometric game so expect older graphics.however dated graphics or not.it destroys Morrowind,Oblivion and most of the rpgs being released nowadays.if interested, you can find copies on amazon,or ebay, although alittle on the expensive side.if you dont feel like throwing out $70,then i also recommend,Arcanum, its similiar to PS:T,but alot cheaper.

If I had to pick a game out of those I know that trascends the boundaries commonly associated with videogames and the status of mere entertainment into artistic creation that would be Planescape Torment, hands down. But as an "epic", traditional rpg it's pretty inconsistent. You won't be slaughtering hordes of enemies with your uber sword of d33th in PST. You won't be finding untold trasures in the den of the dragon you just slew. BG is much better at that. Torment is more like a tale of self discovery in Rpg format.

I've recently been playing Al-Qadim The Genie's Curse, an old action rpg, and I really like that the dungeons in that game seem much more involving and interactive than in the other rpgs I've played. I haven't played much rpgs that are older than the first Fallout and Albion, so I was wandering whether most rpgs from the first half of the 90'ties had interactive dungeons that are much more than simply a place to host monsters you must defeat, and where the the environment is at least as challenging as the monsters inhabiting it, or is this quality more exclusive to The Genie's Curse and maybe a few other games from that era, and if so, can anyone reccommend me some other games with more involving dungeons? EDIT: ok, whatever, guess I am the only person who likes to play 10 + years old computer games

The Nameless One=win but balders gate is just as good.Minsc is a pretty interesting character, even though he has a rather disturbing relationship with his pet hamster

Torment had REALLY cool characters. My favourite was Dakkon, because of all the background story and he felt really alive Morte was also cool.

18.10.2008 - 20:43 Written by Valentin B on 31.05.2008 at 10:34 You must play Final Fantasy, you should try Final Fantasy VII or Final Fantasy VIII, perhaps also Final Fantasy IX. It's the most epic RPG series of all times! Now on to something else, I recently started to play Lost Odyssey for the Xbox 360. Lost Odyssey is from Hironobu Sakaguchi, the man behind the Final Fantasy franchise. It's really great! All elements from Final Fantasy has been put in this game, as well as many new elements. Also something that makes it feels like a great RPG in the spirit of Final Fantasy is Nobuo Uematsus music. For all those who love Final Fantasy, and owns an Xbox 360 should try this game! Furthermore, I really look forward to Final Fantasy XIII. And it will be released on the Xbox 360 as well outside of Japan! It's fucking great!

18.10.2008 - 22:25 Written by =maD.Doc:. on 18.10.2008 at 20:43 I think Final Fantasy IX was the best out of the PSX FF series... it was like a journey back to the roots of what made the series great. Speaking of which I've been re-playing the old SNES RPGS (FF, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Earthbound, Dragon Quest, Lufia, Breath of Fire) and highly recommend giving them another boot, they are still very much entertaining and relevant in today's world of MMO and advanced graphics.

Any RPG by Bioware is killer; I had a really good time playing games like Kotor 1 a few years back. I heard that they decided to make the next one in the series an MMO, too bad .

Playing Fallout 3,i was skeptical at first, but Bethsoft totally redeemed themselves with FO3,dont believe the bullshit that it's "oblivion with guns"...way better than that game,it has more in common with morrowind than it does oblivion.

Account deleted Written by [user id=8724] on 02.11.2008 at 14:29 Yeah i've been meaning to try Mass Effect for a long time, i'm probably going to get it soon. And I looked up news about Knights of the Old Republic right after I made that post and it's 100% an MMO; its already in production . They also messed the story line, the game takes place 300 years after the events in the first game.

EDIT* if you played any elder scrolls games, just think morrowind or oblivion mixed with the Madmax movies and you have fallout 3.

A great RPG series is the Elder Scrolls series, started with Arena, then Daggerfall, Morrowind and Oblivion. All of which are great games, if you like the Elder Scrolls series its well worth playing the earlier ones.

13.01.2009 - 17:46 Written by Hellkommando on 13.01.2009 at 12:51 I've only played Oblivion in this series. But I think it's way too overrated. Nothing is that good done in the physics of the game. The story gets a plus, but all around in the game is not very well executed from the developers side. It would've needed some more time put into it. Good graphics and good story don't come a long way. Until there comes a great RPG from any european or american developers I'll stick to the japanses ones! Final Fantasy, Lost Odyssey, Eternal Sonata, Tales of series... All those are great RPG's. None will ever come up with something greater than the Japanese RPG's!

Japanese RPG's are different though, different themes, style, format etc; in a sense its like comparing apples to oranges. Again it can come down to personal preference, personally I don't like the Japanese RPG's never have, and I put down to the case of me simply not liking the style and format etc, thats not to say that they are bad games though. For me I've always enjoyed stuff that has a DND format/theme and focuses on that whole sword and sorcery theme, just what I am familiar with and my preference.

Has anyone here played Mass Effect? I just finished my second play through and have to say this is one of the best Video Game RPGs ever made. It is not as good as KOToR or FFVII, but I would rank it right below them. The game not only is a marvel to look at visually, but has a very solid combat system and a fantastic story. What it does lack is the personal feeling I got from a story like KOTOR. Nonetheless, Mass Effect is one of the top 5 games of the last few years. Can't wait for part's II and III. So does anyone else know this game? I don't want to say too much more about it so I don't spoil the amazement that is Mass Effect.

Account deleted Written by Dane Train on 13.01.2009 at 18:45 I think many do, since it was so highly acclaimed when it come out. I loved it too, but the enermous hype led to a minor disappointment though; the side quests became repetive & boring, equipment was too simple (although there were tons of guns with seemingly different stats, I just ended shooting the one with the most damage per shot etc). Still, an excellent experience.

15.01.2009 - 11:58 Written by [user id=32596] on 12.01.2009 at 20:33 I was dissapointed as hell after Fallout 3. I really expected something more. In the end, combat is just plain boring, quests (except a few) are badly desinged, story is mediocre.... Fallout 3 suffers from the classic "graphics to the max, fuck gameplay" syndrome. Anyone here plays Shaiya Online? Did anyone play Vampire : The Masquerade-Bloodlines?
