So who's looking forward to Skyrim and why? And I'm sure that Staff will want this to count as THE Skyrim thread when it comes out so once it's out what are your thoughts on it? I just recently got Oblivion and have been playing it and it's pretty kool, I like it so far and I'm pretty sure I want Skyrim. So since I'm thinking of getting Skyrim I'm not sure if I want to go ahead and run through Oblivion first (which I realize will take me a long time) and then get Skyrim or if I want to just go ahead and get Skyrim and play through that [since it's not actually a direct sequel to Oblivion I shouldn't really be adversely affected by not playing Oblivion first] and then maybe one day go back and finish Oblivion, lol. What are other's thoughts?

I got bored of Skyrim about a week ago. Went back to Mass Effect. I don't know how people can clock 100+ hours on it as you're just doing the same things over and over.

I've sunk 80 hours into it, and I got bored too, so I started playing Arkham city again. I still come back to it, but in smaller doses.

Haha seems like everyone is getting bored of the game. I stopped last week. I picked up Uncharted 3, my time has been spent blasting away on this game.

Uncarted three is great until the difficulty randomly spikes like a motherfucker at the end. It doesnt curve, the fucking thing goes straight up lol.

Challenges are good though. My next game is Dark Souls, I know im in for a challenge with that one.

Nothing wrong with a challenge, but trial and error in a game like that is a bit cheap. Dark Souls is my second favourite game this year next to portal 2, in a lot of ways it's better than Skyrim. The combat system is brilliant, and the game is about taking your time and strategising. If you like a challenge. You'll love this.

Well... It's great, though nothing could top Oblivion for me. Love the new interface, lockpicking and perks from Fallout and all the new features like all the stuff you can do to weapons and armor. That said, it lags constantly even on low video settings for me, which sort of kills the experience, but oh well. Also found at least two bugs so far that make quest finishing impossible, but I'm sure patches will fix that.

I'm still not sure if I'm liking the "weapons and armor don't need to be repaired" bit.

I played Demon Souls for a good while. It was a blast. I know its a strange term but it felt really natural playing the game. The combat system is brilliant. Glad I bought Dark Souls.

I've been hearing/seeing a lot of comparisons between Skyrim and Dark Souls, is Dark Souls first or third person? I'm just curious.

Dark Souls is third person, Both games are RPG's but really cannot be compared with each other, Dark Souls is an awesome game and I recommend it. But it is nothing like Skyrim.

Theyre compared because of an IGN article. And because theyre two big RPG's that came out this year. Dark Souls Has a more hardcore RPG audience base, whereas Skyrim is more accessible (Not that that's a bad thing, it just depends what you like). I prefer Dark Souls, and I honestly couldn't tell you why. I dislike hard games. I like RPG's, but I'm not a hardcore fan of the genre, as I love elder scrolls and mass effect.

I whole-heartedly agree. Bethesda are shit at making tutorials. Morrowinds intro was perfect, make your stats and fuck off, no waiting for patrick stewart to die, and no sitting on a fucking wagon for 9 hours and a half.
I hope they redo the first quest like they did with oblivion, and make it a ship. They even added more classes with that mod, making it an actual roleplaying game...
I do miss classes...

not saying that the game isn't good because from the comments and user-reviews i've read the game is awesome. but i've also seen some complains:

user-interface is shit
the inventory labeling system is fustrating
2GB RAM max usage
mouse sensitivity in menu quirky
quest bugs
quest items sitting in inventory even though the quest is complete

some patches have fixed some of these but I will wait till the mod tools are released...

Interface is great for its simplicity... BUT... it's poorly adapted to PC. Some stuff you can't select with the mouse. Some stuff you can ONLY select with the mouse. It unnecessarily consumes time.

I am loving this game. I finally got to spend some time with it. It's a lot of fun but it definitely has it's fair share of bad bugs on the PS3. There's one dragon that I'm supposed to kill but I can't because it flies around like a maniac (it flies backwards and spins) and than the framerate slows to a crawl. Eventually the dragon floats in the air making no movements other than sometimes rotating...and you can shoot it with arrows or magic...and the dragon does take damage...but it won't die. I can't remember the name of the place now but maybe one of you guys will know what I'm talking about. Some of the textures are also pretty bad but it doesn't ruin the game for me.

They made a patch for the dragon. Just got back in the game after completing arkham city and crysis 2. 68 hours and only level 28? Wtf have I been doing lol?

You mean the recently released patch? Because if that's the case, it hasn't worked lol.

Edit: The dragon is in Bonestrewn Crest. South of Windhelm. That's the dragon that flies like a maniac on drugs and causes the game to slow down to a crawl periodically (mainly when he gets stuck in one spot and is spinning).

The dragon is in Bonestrewn Crest.

Must be a fairly unique glitch cuz I've killed a dragon there at least 2x and not had any problems with it, or any other dragons and I'm on PS3 as well. I have also gotten the 1.01 and 1.02 patches and am still having frame rate issues after a couple hours of game play.

I've logged over 100 hours, at level 52 and my file size is 14MB. Have some other glitches which have turned me off for the time being; there are a few quests I'm unable to complete because I can't get the NPC to do anything. I seem to have lost the 2 people that are supposed to help me get into the Sky Temple so I can't even complete the main quest. And I can't complete the Empire vs. Stormcloaks war quest either because Rikke isn't giving me anything to do. Needless to say I'm a lil peeved right now and wait for the next patch that will hopefully actually fix these quest and frame rate issues.

That's pretty strange that it's happened to me. I haven't had a problem with any of the other dragons I've killed (only about 4-5 others that I've killed). I haven't had really any issues with the frame rate other than the dragon encounter in Bonestrewn.

I've also noticed that my file sizes are going up...and I have multiple saves (well about 4 or 5 saves). But I'm guessing everyone playing the PS3 is encountering this issue.

Plus I've had minor issues where a dead enemy's body is floating in the air...or an enemy (only happened twice with the frostbite spiders) where they are attacking and following my every move but they are not animating. You can kill them though to solve the problem.

Well the frame rate bug I'm referring to only happens after your file size gets over 7 - 9MB and you've been playing for longer than a couple hours. The file size grows because your completing more and more quests and acquiring more skills/perks as well as inventory items so the file sizes are supposed to grow.

Oh ok...that's why I haven't encountered it yet. My files are about 4MB at the moment. Makes sense that the files would grow the more you play and acquire and complete and so on...I was just surprised to hear that it gets that big. Guess I never really payed attention to the save file sizes in other games.

Sorry, the patch hasnt come out yet. I read it on IGN. Should be coming out soon though. The bug must be reasonably common if theyre patching it specifically.

Ah ok, well that's good. I read on one of Bethesda's official blogs that the 1.02 patch was supposed to correct some of the frame rate/lag issues and it doesn't appear to have done shit for me so I was hoping they were planning to do another patch for it. I just wish they'd hurry up and get it through because as well as fix more of the quest finish bugs that they're having, it would be nice to be able to finish the story and war quests at the least.
