With Amon Amarth, I have my own theory (although I have no clue whatsoever why I'd pronounce it like that): since my last name is Amon, I pronounce it German (which would be comparable to swedish in pronounciation): open A's like the last A in Canada, the O as in old and the th as in with. But as I say, it might be completely wrong. And to that Amon: the egyptian pharao Tut-ank-amun is called Amon in egyptian as well, and that's the same pronounciation as far as I can remember.

I think Amon Amarth is pronounced the european anglo-saxic way, like swedes, germans, Britts etc. would pronounce it... no american accent or other languages disturbing...

Amon Amarth is actually a Sindarin name (one of Tolkien's Elven languages; it means "Mount Doom"). See this page for pronunciation rules: http://www.ellammath.de/pronunciation.htm

Basically an oxymoron... Judas was a traitor and a priest dedicates his life to saviour and becomes celibate while Judas was a greedy bastard and killed himself, pretty ironic once you think about it....
no offense but what does this have to do with pronouncing band names?

The a's are long like in the word "canal" and it's just "Nath-rack" or if you want to get technical, you can roll your r's and say it more like "Noth-rock" like Merlin did. It's actually a spell Merlin says in a movie. They have the clip at the beginning of one of their songs. Not sure which one though.

How do you pronounce Akercocke?

Ak-er-kok-er.

I've heard the band themselves say it like that.

I just say Ber-zm. I guess that's the best way to write it.

I'm guessing you have problems with the 'Wuth' bit. Well, the best way to type it out is to say that it rhymes with the 'moth' in 'mother'. At least with the way I say it.

And the one band name that I've never ever been sure how to pronounce: Adramelech.

I say Sarcofago: 'sar-cof-a-go'. I never thought there was any accented pronounciation so I say it how its spelt. I could be wrong.

I'd say' Ad-ra-me-lek' for the second one.

Satyuricon

Is that supposed to say Satyricon? If so I say 'Sat-tir (like the word 'tear', as in crying but not as long in sound)- ee-con' as that's how the band say it.

I'm fairly sure its 'Gort-er'.

Burzum is the Orcish word for "darkness", in other words, another one from Tolkien's world. Orcish is regarded an extremely ugly and raw language. I mainly say it straight forward when I talk Norwegian, but I think any kind of pronounciation similar to Scandinavian languages or German would do good justice, since these languages have some of the same sharp "edge" as Orcish.

how can i pronounce Solefald?

I say 'so (sort of like the beignning of the world 'soul') -le-fald', pretty much how it's spelt although I don't know how correct that pronounciation is. Best of asking a Norwegian I think.

Written by TOUGHEST MEMBER on 21.02.2007 at 16:27

what about motörhead? How can I pronounce it?

Like the English words 'motor' and 'head', pronounced 'mo (long 'o' sound) -ter-hed'.
