I get sick of summer pretty soon, not because of the sun but because of humidity. Queensland is a bitch for that! Winters here are usually good, just about cold enough to need a jumper. Snow is kinda overrated, it's cool to look at and play in but I reckon it'd be a bitch to shovel off a driveway! Though I'd much rather live in a place where it snowed lots and was generally cold than in a place where it was hot all the time (e.g. Cairns). That would suck ass pretty solidly.

Haha yeah where i lived before was pretty bad for that. We were on the QLD border and it got pretty humid... This year it got so hot we couldnt do anything but sit in front of the fan with water on our faces trying to cool off. it got so bad my feet over heated and i had to fill bath and stand in it. I havent quite experienced summer here yet though. Apparently the winters here arnt usually as cold as it has been this year. But its starting to warm up a bit now and the days are 20 degress which is good for my standards I prefer spring though, its not too hot and its not to cold... When its summer ill probably be posting in here about how much i hate the heat like i am now with how much i hate the cold haha.

There's too many fluctuations in the weather during summer in Victoria (and I can imagine in Tasmania too). Ranges from 40 degree days to 20 degree overcast the next day which sucks for the humidity. Hence, why I prefer the winter myself. I used to go up to the mountains/ski resorts every year, but I'm not sure whether I'll get the time this year On another note, it seems the Judas Priest Oz tour is selling so badly that they ended up reducing the ticket prices to $60. Hadn't got my tickets yet, but looks as though there's still some standing tickets left now for $60.

19.08.2008 - 10:41 Written by Eternal Flames on 19.08.2008 at 09:30 This brings up a question, for us that got in early and paid for $100 a silver standing, could we ask for a refund and then buy again at the lower price?

19.08.2008 - 11:13 Written by Xtreme Jax on 19.08.2008 at 10:41 I'm not entirely sure but I think these new, cheaper tickets are actually behind the silver standing area. I think promoters were just unable to sell all of the tickets at the $100 price so they've introduced the cheaper bronze tickets for all the areas at the back of each section that didn't manage to sell out. So technically, if you were to get a refund you'd probably be looking at getting worse tickets. But as I said, I'm not certain about this as the ticketek haven't updated the seating chart on their site so it's not quite clear where the different bronze sections are located.

@Marcel: Hey, you guys complain waaaaaay more than we do when it's hot. And your definition of 'hot' is as poor as our definition of 'cold'! I remember when you guys had a 'heatwave' in Europe back in 2003. That wasn't a heatwave, that was a normal summer!

I allways found Australia to have a special kind of charm and want to visit it someday, however some things prevented me: 1: long distance 2: Heat, I simply can't stand heat and have also an heat allergy 3: big spiders I heard of many people here that there are quite a lot of Dutchies in Australia is that true?

I can't remember the last time a spider- or snake-related death was on the news, actually. Global warming must be fucking them up too. Besides, if you don't like our more dangerous wildlife, just come in winter, and avoid the far north. Not a lot can be done about the distance though... As for the Dutchies here, I don't know if there are very many of them but my French lecturer last semester was a Dutch-Australian. I think most Dutchies just blend in with the general population, and don't draw attention to themselves like the Poms and the Yanks do.

24.08.2008 - 06:37 Written by Fuath on 23.08.2008 at 03:34 well with the last sentence you said it, the venom worries me just like those snakes there. I am defently one of those goofy types who would walk without knowing it in an area where there are a lot of them. Spiders please following the example of your Brazilian cousins stay in your wildlife area's and don't bother humans. Also I like the online flash series of Aus artist Adam Phillips his Brackenwood serie is great. well it's bit like Marcel I think, when the Dutch fled Indonesia because of the invading japs they went to Australia and New-Zealand since The Netherlands was occupied by Germany in the west and after WW2 Indonesia became indepented and most Dutch probally stayed in Aus and NZ or returned to the Motherland.

Spiders are fun. Especially huntsmans and funnel webs. Snakes like taipans and brownsnakes are gnarly, too. Stepping outside in Australia is an exercise in survival.

acording to wikipedia the Huntsman Spider is also common in the Netherlands but so far I never saw them here and I also haven't heard anyone talking about them here. But as an Ausie I think you are basicly used to them, well I am sure not:P

The Dutch who setled in Australia did not flee from Indonesia. They left The Netherlands in the 50s to try and build a better life there with more opportunities. It's got nothing to do with the war. Just your normal immigrants, like Australia has loads of Greek immigrants.

But seriously, how often do we encounter them enough to disrupt our lifestyles? Hardly an issue. Distance is ok, travelling is good fun. Besides, not often you need to travel.
