So who's looking forward to Skyrim and why? And I'm sure that Staff will want this to count as THE Skyrim thread when it comes out so once it's out what are your thoughts on it? I just recently got Oblivion and have been playing it and it's pretty kool, I like it so far and I'm pretty sure I want Skyrim. So since I'm thinking of getting Skyrim I'm not sure if I want to go ahead and run through Oblivion first (which I realize will take me a long time) and then get Skyrim or if I want to just go ahead and get Skyrim and play through that [since it's not actually a direct sequel to Oblivion I shouldn't really be adversely affected by not playing Oblivion first] and then maybe one day go back and finish Oblivion, lol. What are other's thoughts?

it flies around like a maniac (it flies backwards and spins)

Apparently the 1.3 patch they are releasing this week some time should fix this problem.

Here's a full report on a Bethesda blog (Bethblog) about what's going and what their plans are for trying to fix a lot of the bugs/glitches if anyone else wants to read it.

Sorry, the patch hasnt come out yet. I read it on IGN. Should be coming out soon though. The bug must be reasonably common if theyre patching it specifically.

Ah ok, well that's good. I read on one of Bethesda's official blogs that the 1.02 patch was supposed to correct some of the frame rate/lag issues and it doesn't appear to have done shit for me so I was hoping they were planning to do another patch for it. I just wish they'd hurry up and get it through because as well as fix more of the quest finish bugs that they're having, it would be nice to be able to finish the story and war quests at the least.

Stop playing. Now. On playstation, after about 80 hours, and 10 mbs, the game is barely playable. The game runs slower than a slideshow, I randomly die for no reason, save files corrupt themselves meaning I have to save in a different slot each time (at 10 mb's a slot, thats pretty fucked), and the character seems to have epileptic fits randomly. I don't give a fuck how big your games are bethesda, you cannot release a broken game.

Apparently the bugs will take a huge amount of manpower and time to correctly fix on the PS3.

That's why you go for the 360 version, though I'll admit I've encountered my share of bugs. There is a mission where I am required to escort some NPC from a cave, only they are stuck just inside the entrance/exit :/ And that's not to mention the number of times my console has frozen.

Playing today I almost succeeded in riding a dragon, I was literally standing on it's back

Skyrim is far from being the greatest game of all times. Filled with glitch, way too easy and repetitive. It is addictive but one would have to be blind to think it's that good.

I'm over 100 hours and at 14MB and I can still play for a couple hours before the lag sets in as long as in between plays I leave the PS3 unplugged. I have basically quit playing for the time being though because the quests I have right now are unfinishable for whatever reason; I can't find Esbern and Delphine so that I can get into the Sky Temple to continue the main quest and then I'm stuck in the War quest because Rikke isn't giving me anything more to do for the "Retake The Pale" quest even though the marker tells me to talk to her.

Unfortunately, its too late to get my money back on this game, so if they don't patch it, I'm not playing it. Which means I can get back to the FAR superior Dark Souls. That game may be fucking hard, but at least it has the common decency to work.

I sold my 360. It was a piece of shit, and I prefer the playstation anyway. The only reason xbox is more popular is because it came out earlier and the ps3's first year was shit. Now it's a much better console imo.

Completely agree...not to mention PSN is FREE...although I would be willing to pay for a subscription if Sony and Microsoft would agree to create an online system that is compatible with each other for cross platform online multiplayer...

That would be awesome, but I doubt it will ever happen. PSN is free, but it isnt as reliable as xbox live. And I prefer Gamerscore to trophies. But those are minor gripes, especially when you consider the exclusive titles. If I made a list of my top 10 modern games, at least 4 of them would be ps3 exclusives.

To be honest the reason I went for the 360 was simply just upgrading from the original xbox. Nothing against the PS3, both are fine consoles I think. Just going by what's been said about Skyrim it seems the xbox version might be less buggy.

Playstation 2 came out first, even though the xbox was far superior in almost every way, it still beat the got the shit kicked out of it in sales. The xbox came out first, and now its beating playstation. See a pattern emerging?

But yeah, Skyrim has a lot less probems on xbox and pc because those two are easier to port from one to the other.

PS3 and 360 are practically neck and neck. There's only a couple of million units difference.

Also, the 360 in general is said to be far easier to develop for, not just a case of the porting issue. Developers often have trouble getting the most out of it.

Yeah, because it uses div x, something developers are used to, whereas ps3 uses xmb or something.

And its only a couple of million, not a couple of thousand.

I got a chance to play this at my friend's house last night.
Can't say I have a real impression on the game, I was kinda drunk so I only vividly remember laughing like a douche when a Giant send me flying sky-high with a single swing of his club/mace/whatever it was. Oh, and Destruction Magic is definitively more interesting than in Oblivion.

I meant thousand. Its only like 3 thousand or something that xbox is ahead by. And I'm not sure its xmb, its just something like that. It's got the potential to be better than div x, its just extremely hard to work with, and certain developers, like bethesda (magicly back on topic), can't be fucked.

So I have Skyrim now, on the PC. I've not bought a PC game for years - so I wasn't used this installing Steam and downloading the game business... what a load of rubbish.

Now the game is installed, it automatically put the graphics at "very high" according to what it felt my computer could do, but even on "low" it is a little choppy in places. I hate the interface, I don't like the menus, and I don't like that you can never actually see your character from the front in the menu like on Oblivion. Most of all though, I hate the laggy cursor in the menus. I have altered all kinds of stuff in the .ini file and it still doesn't feel right, but I guess I'll just have to get used to it.

I'm just at the start of the game, I got to Riverwood and then made my way to Falkreath ignoring the main quests...

I would totally disagree. I'd say the magic sucks ass in Skyrim. I'm level 23, so maybe it gets better, but Destruction magic specifically is very weak. In Oblivion you could make your own spells, here, you rely on some crappy tomes your local court wizard has.

Really? I rely exclusively on magic. I have a fire spell that does 400 damage.

Btw, I patched the game, and it works much better now.

Downloading off steam is one of the main reason I don't play games on pc anymore. It's the most pointless thing since Donnie Darko 2.
