Cities and towns and different things. Cities are much larger and usually have a cathedral. Towns are smaller, but bigger than villages.

London isn't a town, it is a huge huge city. London is a really weird place though, because it is built up from a bunch of different places. As a whole it counts as its own county I think.

10.06.2009 - 21:11 Written by Baz Anderson on 08.06.2009 at 23:08 If I remember rightly from when I learnt this as a kid: Village is under 800 population, town 800 to 6,500 population, 6,500 to 100,000 is a large town and over 100,000 + cathedral = City. Not 100% sure about the 6,500 figure but I think it's something like that.

11.06.2009 - 04:14 Written by Baz Anderson on 09.06.2009 at 01:33 Yes, I'll confirm that for you. (been living there for two years now) I think Bad English is referring to "London Town" as in some references of the phrase in pop music like Gwen Stefani's Rich Girl which has the following: "Think what that money could bring I'd buy everything Clean out Vivienne Westwood In my Galliano gown No, wouldn't just have one hood A Hollywood mansion if I could Please book me first-class to my fancy house in London town"

Well my car insurance is due next month so I've been going through a couple of price comparison websites. I'm third party fire & theft at the moment but it seems I can get fully comprehensive with More Than for quite a bit cheaper than I am paying now. Seems it pays to be 21 and have a year no claims!

25.06.2009 - 11:24 Written by Baz Anderson on 25.06.2009 at 00:29 Yes indeed - and wait until you are 25 - the cost then is almost nothing compared with what you are paying now. Is the mini still going well ? ( Sorry force of habit - my husband is a motor mechanic )

The words for settlements can be "town", "borough" and whatnot....it's just the style that the Latin word tends to be used for signifying a larger town..... I personally prefer using "town"... it sounds more English....

I am now officially a Bachelor of Science. I got my degree result today. Very very happy with a 2:1, so happy considering I didn't put much effort in to the whole thing and expected a 2:2. That means I can apply for Masters courses now. I'm not going to for this next year, but who knows in the future. You can call me Barry Anderson BSc (Hons) now. Hahaha.

Well I did go to the University of Lincoln. I'm going to be applying for jobs, etc. after the festivals though. Seeing as I got a 2:1, I am wondering if I could try and go for a Masters the next year, or get some other qualification or something. Depends on how successful I am job-wise in the next year I guess.

Apparently not... hahaha. So what is everyone doing? I am feeling like a worthwhile citizen now after signing on - but I am also doing some voluntary work at a falconry and wildlife centre, so I am having a good time there. I've sorted out a bunch of shows to go to in the coming months - but I'm not looking forward to any of them more than I am Ensiferum. I've only seen then twice before - once in a tiny venue in Bradford in early 2007, and again at Wacken in 2008. The Wacken performance was nothing compared to the tiny indoor show - that Bradford show is still one of the most enjoyable shows I can ever remember going to, so I am REALLY looking forward to this Nottingham show.

Also doing " nothing much " I've been trying to enjoy the sunny days and ignoring the rest. Travelling up and down the country trying to sort out houses for my kids - Newcastle and Brighton - could they be further apart if they tried Reading , listening to music etc ... the usual @ Baz Anderson - the Falconry centre sounds good - I assume it is the same one that you take all your nice bird pics ? My daughter is also " signing on " - graduating isn't as much fun as they said it would be

Yep, the falconry centre is just a few minutes north of Lincoln - so it's perfect for me. It is where I took most of those pictures, including that close-up of the butterfly. There's other animals there and a tropical house, etc. It's such a good place to work - we're having a party there on Friday, and it may or may not involve putting ferrets down people's trousers.
