So who's looking forward to Skyrim and why? And I'm sure that Staff will want this to count as THE Skyrim thread when it comes out so once it's out what are your thoughts on it? I just recently got Oblivion and have been playing it and it's pretty kool, I like it so far and I'm pretty sure I want Skyrim. So since I'm thinking of getting Skyrim I'm not sure if I want to go ahead and run through Oblivion first (which I realize will take me a long time) and then get Skyrim or if I want to just go ahead and get Skyrim and play through that [since it's not actually a direct sequel to Oblivion I shouldn't really be adversely affected by not playing Oblivion first] and then maybe one day go back and finish Oblivion, lol. What are other's thoughts?

I ever wonder if you do all the Dark Brotherhood quest you end up the only one alive in Skyrim. Would be a funny and pointless easter egg.

I would totally disagree. I'd say the magic sucks ass in Skyrim. I'm level 23, so maybe it gets better, but Destruction magic specifically is very weak. In Oblivion you could make your own spells, here, you rely on some crappy tomes your local court wizard has.

Ah, yes, the option to create own spells was half the fun as a Mage in Oblivion. So many possibilities, exploits et cetera. It sucks that Skyrim doesn't have that option, but at least a grand, 100+ damage fireball doesn't look like a midget orange that you throw at your opponents.

And do level-dependent Spells scale well? You know, the ones that only work on enemies of a certain level? Because after lvl 20 in Oblivion, those became completely useless as there was no way you could either buy or make a Spell that would affect something of such a high level.

What about all the sidequests (and they are plenty)? I have the feeling you're not playing this game properly. I hardly finished 30% of it by now, because I go out of my way to explore everything I come across, to talk to everyone, to craft items, buy spells, enchant items... in other words, just to do everything I want, as the game itself intends you to.

Oblivion is still so much better for me, even though Skyrim is very addictive, no doubt about it. As you were in Cyrodil, the central province of Tamriel, you had a piece of everything. For example, the Imperial City, combined with all of its districts actually felt like a real city (instead of stacking 15 houses together and calling it a town, like the rest of the game does). Other cities are very diverse from one another, unlike in Skyrim, where they all look alike. Bruma was your Nordesqe cold town. Cheydinhal had that gothic vibe to it, followed with plenty of Dark Elves in it, and so on.

Skyrim does improve on some things (I'm really digging the crafting/enchanting/alchemy system and the perks, slow regeneration of health and so on), but lacks some others. For example: you step into the water but you have no indicator as to how much air you have left until your health starts to decrease. You summon an atronach but you can't see how much time it has until it disappears. You cast a defensive spell on yourself, but aside from the flashing, you can't see its duration somewhere on the screen.

Furthermore, they did a pisspoor job at adjusting it to the PC. Why on earth did I have to tweak the mouse sensibility in the options. Does Bethesda really think that I prefer playing that it takes me one minute to make a mouse turn from one end to another? Seriously.

I'm also really interested about the specs you guys have. I have: 2 GB of RAM memory (though it's recommended 4), 3 GHZ, NVIDIA GeForce GT 430. It's far from high-end gaming system, but it's not rubbish either, but I still lag like hell even when playing on low video settings.

It was designed for consoles... and it still lags on them.

Im guessing you play Skyrim on PS3 right? apparently this problem isn't half as bad on the Xbox version. I wish Bethesda would put more fucking time into bug testing the're games, rather then letting the customers do it for them.

Yeah, I'm playing it on ps3. My brother has it on his 360, and he still has a fuckload of problems. The patch fixed a lot of my problems, but not all of them. The thing is, I could understand this coming from a low budget game, or an indie company, but bethesda isn't exactly poor. They'd be making a killing off fallout 3 and the elder scrolls series, so they should have the resources to fix their games correctly. Being a massive game is no excuse. There are major things wrong with the game that the developers cant have missed. Other games are huge and can manage minimal bugs.

4 Go quadcore Nvidia GeForce GTS 450. Nothing too high end, but I don't have any problems running the game on high quality (except it keeps shutting down on me but that's more a Steam fail). The only game I had problems with was DA2.

Have you done the Daedric ones. Pretty nice especially the one where the game turns in a giant "Dude Where's my Car?"

Oh yeah i've done two i think. The drinking one, which was pretty cool and theres one where you bring a beacon to a statue and go through a dungeon. Dungeons are the boring part for me, they just feel so tedious.

I honestly don't understand why no one mods for the PS3 and 360. Or do they only release the kit for PC users; if they released the kit and it allows modding for any system then why would no one come up with a simplified modding interference like Borderlands for modding the save file?

Fantastic, still playing, highly addicted. Still doing the main and guild quests, doing it very slow, I want to take my time to enjoy game. After Oblivion who didn't catch my attention, Skyrim is in spirit, for me, true heir to Morrowind ... and after Baldur's Gate best FRP game out there.

How can anyone be still addicted to this? (assuming you started on release date). 60 hours was enough for me start getting bored of it.

Still, 60-80 hours of gameplay is way more game for your money then the usual 8hrs games. I still play from time to time and I'm really digging the little perks you gain from the daedric quests. But I have to say that the main thing I hate about the game is how stupidly easy the game becomes once you get Shadowmere (the undead horse) and how abruptely the main quest ends.

I have Shadowmere and it's just a horse that doesn't die, like Oblivion... I don't get why it would make the game "stupidly easy"...
It distracts enemies by fighting for you, but it isn't like it can go into dungeons with you...

Well when attacking outside ennemies and even dragons, you can let him do all the work and shoot some arrows at a distance from time to time. even against a horde of ennemy noone will come at you if shadowmere is there. No need to plan attack or anything. you just step right in the midlle of the battlefield do the wirlwind shout and shoot arrows at random.

Yea I know but I don't like doing that. I prefer the challenge of sneaking into the camps and fortresses and picking them off one at a time without anyone knowing what's going on. Plus half the time the stupid horse get's in the way and I end up either hitting him with the arrows or having to constantly reposition myself so that he's not in the way so I can hit the enemy with an arrow.

I admit at first, their was something really satisfying with killing everyone one at a time and shooting just when you see the holster their weapon. But it got old pretty fast. Now I'm tryin to play as a mage (for the first time ever in an frpg) and I discovered something amazing Dual casting.Mwahaha. I'll try to avoid the dark brotherhood.
