After a brilliant genre named Death Metal has seen its debut in the late 80's early 90's with highly acknowledged acts such as Morbid Angel, Suffocation, Immolation, etc, you might ask yourself; "what's the next big thing for such extreme and brutal music"? Well, to start off the 21st Century, the answer is loud and clear. Out of Europe emerges a four piece of uncompromising Death Metal musicians who have taken the name of Decapitated. The members of the band were still in their teens when they released their debut album 'Winds Of Creation' and so no one was expecting anything great due to their young age...they were left dumbstruck. The debut of this Polish group is considered as one of the best albums of the genre to this day, this being completely understandable. 'Winds Of Creation' is indeed one hell of a recording, screaming DEATH METAL to any fan out there.

Now what this album brings forth is nothing really new or experimental to the genre. That's no matter, because with music like this you don't need anything different as Winds Of Creation delivers simply magnificent, straight forward Death Metal executed perfectly. In fact, what makes this work so good is as mentioned before, sticking to the roots of the genre but the fuel to the fire is really the great musicianship and tight execution of this four piece. What I'm coming to here is that Decapitated are more than capable of good song writing and right off the bat with the title track opener you know you're in for some seriously good, catchy and brutal music. The next few tracks 'Blessed' and 'The First Damned' won't prove you wrong which makes this record consistently good and very enjoyable to listen to. There are a lot of catchy riffs and fast 'choppy'/chromatic guitar passages that sometimes end up being fairly technical which just makes the music even more interesting. Vocalist 'Sauron' offers low guttural growls that fit perfectly with the music. The drumming handled by Vitek is well done and will only improve on their next releases. Another highlight of this record is that you can hear the bass perfectly. Last but not least, watch out for the solos, all you guitar fanatics. The one on 'Human's Dust' is outstanding.

'Winds Of Creation' is perhaps their most raw sounding album which gives the songs a more old school and mean attitude than their next three releases. There is nothing to complain about in the production, it is exactly how it should sound; Earache records did their job well.

If you are looking for quality Death Metal that will surely stand out in your collection I can easily recommend you this piece of work. It is among the best of this type of music without a doubt. Decapitated have gained notice worldwide after this debut and bring on the competition in the genre where many promising acts are rising. So look out for 'Winds Of Creation' on the shelves of your local CD store if you don't already have it as it is a must for anyone brutal out there.
