I love the sound of thrash in the morning. As a matter of fact, if I would run an advertising agency I'd made a smashing commercial to promote Building Chaos' demo as the perfect breakfast soundtrack to go with a savory bowl of cornflakes. Point is, Building Chaos' 2009 demo, aptly called "Promo 2009", described by the band as pure chaotic metal, could be the perfect apocalypse... for now. Unfortunately there's much more in a whole day than just breakfast time - and I'm not even a morning person to begin with.

But let's take it from the top for all the ones who are not quite awake yet. Once again I'm presenting thee an underground thrash demo which I believe is worth your time and interest. Before diving into this tasty three-tracker, I guess you'll have to know for information's sake that Building Chaos have started their activities about four years ago, and are slowly finding their way in the Greek underground scene. Giving this demo a shot means not choosing for traditional thrash or groove metal, but rather some sort of half-baked mid-paced blend of both styles. You won't be choosing for freshness or originality either. There's really no need to butter this up, despite showing some power and potential, Building Chaos aren't exactly the most innovative or groundbreaking band of the scene, yet not in a way they're becoming generic. Building Chaos are the proof it is possible to come up with an appealing, non-aggressive and quite rhythmic/grooving sound without having to reinvent the wheel over and over again. And here's where it becomes interesting in my eyes: when expectations aren't exactly high, the most mediocre releases are really turning out as good as they possibly can get. What's more, for any thrash junkie there's nothing better than a no-brainer to get the day started with.

But then again, I could be wrong - highly unlikely though - and maybe my judgment about this band could be completely distorted. If that's the case I blame the length of this demo. The record is clocking in at nearly nine minutes, which means it dashes out the door nearly as fast as it came in. So let's give Building Chaos the benefit of doubt and hope they lose a bit of those characterless edges and shoot for a little more consistency on their upcoming sophomore album. After all, the thrash will still be here tomorrow.

Metal Stormer since 2004 to 2011, returned in late 2024. Still don’t give ratings, though. The review will tell you way more than a number ever could. Just read it, disagree if you must, and we’ll yell, fight, kiss, and make up.

Half-baked indeed. Hope they aren't expecting this release to get them signed... Is this the kind of instance where it's better to just not comment on the review at all?
