Plastilinovy JiNN is proof that metal is everywhere around the world, even in places you'd never suspect. To my surprise, this young band comes from Kazakhstan- one of the countries of ex-USSR, between Russia and China, for those who don't know -, which is probably the place where you least expect to find a metal band. I've noticed that countries that are less likely to have a consistent metal scene usually tend to produce really extreme bands (grind, true black, brutal death, etc.). For once, this is not the case, since Plastilinovy JiNN play indus rock/metal, sometimes almost pop.

So now, I guess I have to tell you why I've really enjoyed this fourth album. I like that We Are makes me happy for about half an hour every time I listen to it. I like that there is something new and fresh to it. Maybe it is the fact that this is pure music, understand that this is not overproduced, there is no orchestra, no grandiloquent arrangements, just music played by enthusiastic young people. I also like the cheap sounding of the keyboards, which makes some songs (for instance "Nash Poezd") sound like a mix between metal and cartoons of the 80's- Captain Harlock and co if it rings a bell to anybody. I really like the diversity of the influences present in this album: we have for example two songs that are pure indus, with some tunes that remind of every great indus band you can find out here (with a special mention to the very Ministry-like "Dvigay!"), two pop-rock ballads, an indus power metal (!) song, sometimes heavy riffs, laser rays sounds, and catchy choruses. I like that this album is made for dancing. I like the exoticism of the lyrics in Kazakh (or Russian or whatever for all I know), even if I have no idea what they're talking about. I like the vocals, that have nothing particularly stunning but go so well with the rest. I like that this band from nowhere already has a strong personality and a good sense of originality, and that unlike some bands that have more advantages, they are not satisfied with only ripping famous bands off.

In the end, despite a few minor flaws, like the underproduction of the guitars and the really short length of the album, Plastilinovy JiNN is a really surprising band to me. Even if only for listening to a Kazakh band once in your life, I call upon you to give them a chance. I don't know how and if they will be able to release anything outside their country- you'll notice that they have no album cover and website to give you an idea of the lack of support, but I do wish them luck.
