Hardcore Jah
Feb 06, 2022
Forty years ago, metal's cousin punk was branching off. Post-punk and new wave were already pretty established offspring, but hardcore punk is the one which would take the sound to even heavier directions. When this sound peaked is still up for debate, but few albums in 1982 were as explosive and noisy as Bad Brains' debut. Simple in its structures, heavily reliant on massive amounts of outpouring energy, sprinkled with reggae and dub to create a sound that has never been replicated. Not only is this a peak for hardcore and punk in general, a fantastic debut, and a striking genre combination, but also became the go-to black punk band.

Agreed. I even love the reggae parts, which is odd.

I had a hardcore skateboarding session before I busted my nut, and I was listening to This along with Agent Orange's Living In Darkness and man, It clicked so hard. Fantastic album. Vocal work, guitars and the sheer intensity of this slays.

Rather good HC with some original song writing and vocals. It's hard to rate this kind of album because there is no good comparisons, it's hard to say how good it actually is. Best songs to me are Sailin' On, Banned In D.C. and I.

Why the fook is intro the last song?

When I put this album on and Sailin’ On starts… I could run through walls. So much energy.
