All eyes have been on Nightwish over the last three years following the huge commercial success of previous album "Once" and of course also the dramatic letting go of previous vocal powerhouse Tarja. Now more than ever Tuomas and company have immense pressure placed upon them to deliver the goods with the sixth full length edition to the Nightwish catalogue.

LMAO! This is far from perfect. Loads of commercial crap (Amaranth, Bye Bye Beautiful) and perhaps the most boring song they've ever made (Eva) on this one. OTOH, it also contains their best and heaviest songs to date, including PATP and Master Passion Greed. It's like Once and CC in almost every way, there's more filler, but the awesome tracks are even more awesome than Ghost Love Score and The Beauty Of The Beast. Marco singing on almost every track is also great.

This album is nothing like once and CC in my opinion, but i do think the quality of musicianship here is just as good. But that's just me:P

Good album, with the exception that a few tracks seem really weak in contrast to the rest of the album.

Decided to revisit this after liking Imaginaerum and getting used to Anette's voice. The problem with this one was definitely the music and not the change of vocalist, only 3 or 4 good songs here.

Yeah, I'd have to agree with you. Now, I'm not a big Nightwish fan (only have the Anette albums: never got around to getting the Tarja era stuff for some reason, although I have listened to a couple of their songs with her on vocals), so I can't compare the two vocalists very well, but this album just...feels like it's lacking something to kick in to the next level. The music isn't bad, but there's not a lot of stuff that I would say has the magic (I know, odd choice of word) they captured perfectly on Imaginaerum. Anette isn't the issue, as she had to sing what she was given (also, she didn't write anything for the band, so I fail to see why people consider her to be the reason the band went downhill. Same as Tim Owens in Judas Priest and Iced Earth, but that's getting off topic...). The problem is that Tuomas (who wrote most of the album on his own) just didn't write strong enough music.

At least Imaginaerum was an improvement. I'm hoping Floor doesn't end up getting the same problem with the next Nightwish album...

The reason it's my least favourite Nightwish album is its inconsistency. The first song is great, as are the last four. In between are some good songs, some lesser songs and a couple that are just Nightwish on autopilot. But that closing 4 track stretch is one of the strongest in the Nightwish catalogue.

And I like "Eva".

After like it was out 2007 I am listening 1th time this one after 7 years (if my mathematics is good) ... I am thinking how would this album sound whit Tarja ??+ well its not good, its week album whit 2 killer songs ''By By beautiful'' and ''Amaranth'' remember video to ''By By beautiful'' Anette Olzon was dancing so sexy into it, Amaranth was cool video, its basicly it what I can say about this album, rest is well ..... 75min, I would say 20min waste of time

The level of hatred towards this album is amazing. Music is a kind of competition?

I don't think hatred is the right word. Some people dislike it, sure. On the other hand it has a rating of 7.7 ( with 1017 votes given). That's not bad at all.

Wasn't too eager to listen to this album, now tbh I cannot say I'd missed much. 75 minutes, c'mon it's way too much, especially when the music is like this, that is suited better for casual listening IMO. There are good moments, which I'm sure everyone is aware of and can agree on. But that's nowhere near to reach 75 minutes

Sahara might actually be my favourite Nightwish song. Has a very nice vibe to it. I remember listening through all the albums last year (before seeing them live) and it was the song that immediately grabbed my attention. The rest of the middle section of the album is on the weaker side imo. Strong opening and ending but the middle part is really inconsistent.

Better than I remembered, solid work. I never really got into Tarja and find Anette to be a more enjoyable singer.

Another solid output from Nightwish. Anette is a much more pleasant singer than Tarja for me, and more of Marko's vocals are also good. A bit too long, but there's way more diversity in the songwriting, and the opener is just amazing. Most songs are enjoyable enough, in contrast to the Tarja albums where there was more average songs than good ones. Musically, this continues well from Once, with heavier and soft songs, as well as more progressive songs. Their second best album to date imo.

I never cared for this album until I heard Floor singing P&P and 7DtW live at Wembley. Marvelous songs!! I wish she would sing For The Heart I Once Had--the most forgettable song on the list I would assume-- live once. It's got such a beautiful melody!
