Was listening to this after my daily swim and then it all came together: why not listen to it WHILE in water? Oh god, that is going to be a phenomenally deep experience. This is the perfect band to listen to when you're in water. And Ahab, certainly.

Sounds cool, but I doubt there would be a way to listen to music in water, unless your in a private pool with loud speakers and no one cares.

Do you mean like this or this?
Kind of interesting idea I guess.
So if you have those, you listened to Esoteric or Ahab under water I assume? Sounds cool. I personally like to swim, but I'm not the best at it.

Nah, not too big. Like this: https://www.amazon.com/Swimbuds-Waterproof-Headphones-Underwater-Promotion/dp/B006IF7S92
I don't have them, and neither have I tried listening to Esoteric/Ahab underwater *yet*. Given their fascination with oceans, Ahab (particularly Call of the Wretched Sea) seems quite the appropriate band to listen when underwater. Maybe when scuba diving as well, or something similar.

Have you heard The Maniacal Vale yet? It's easily their masterpiece, but I'd say this one is almost as good

I wouldn't say tMV is easily their best, given how phenomenal the band's output is. I've always been of the opinion that The Pernicious Enigma is a close rival for their best.

I agree, but TMV is still their best

On an Esoteric roll, Abandomnent's trailing building all falls down ending with an awesome melodic charged release.

Everytime there's some talking about highlights on this album, people are mostly marking Non Being and Disconsolate. And I understand why. But most bright highlight for me is Abandonment. It starts mostly like another Esoteric song, but build is more and more intense. After that almost like moment of silent before storm and after this eruptive ending! Very good melodic build up and there's even something more. Almost like... Bit of hope. On Esoteric album! It's more only like residues of a dying blurred light, but still... Almost.

It's that charging emotion. A supreme, unadulterated, more-likely relatable flavour to us strived for in art that many miss so it's always awesome to see someone else understand. Distincting the individuality from music apart from the rest is what I'm all about that over the usual normie favourite answers but this is Esoteric, where a lot of moments get missed but for me what I always remembered first was the emotioins.
This happened prior with the ending to The Secret Of The Secret and the solo/ vocal crush on A Worthless Dream which also became favourites specifically because of their initial distinction upon hearing. I try to mention this whenever I do my review comments.

Esoteric in their most melodic form. I love everything about this, although The Maniacal Vale is still their absolute best and the heaviest in sound. Disconsolate is such a masterpiece of a song!!
