So much has already been written about Shadows Fall - after all, they've been releasing albums for fifteen years now and were considered one of the leading bands in the so-called New Wave of American Heavy Metal (and the sub-genre known as Metalcore) in the early years of this century. So, fast forward to 2012, and they've released their seventh studio album titled Fire From the Sky.

Pretty sick title.

Yeah, I agree that it's a good title. Looking forward to the album as I thought that Retribution was very good. I hope they tour Australia again as well in support of the new album - maybe later in the year.

Good album art, good title, now let's hope it's a step up from retribution and they'll be well on their way to being an A class metal band again. Retribution was okay, but honestly I liked Fallout better, and threads of life was just ick.

The cleans were cringe worthy. Not a good follow up to Retribution.

I've had my review done since yesterday

Actually, I'll have to revise it though, it's grown on me a bit, but don't get me wrong...

It still fucking sucks.

It falls under the category of Misc. Metalcore along with 48598234579 other bands, all the songs get ruined by the cleans and they never really go anywhere.

Some good songs here. First thoughts are that it isn't as brutal at Retribution - which I think is the high point of their career thus far. Some really nice melodies with the clean vocals, which is probably for the best because I think Brian Fair is the weakest link in the band. Jason Bittner continues to impress with his drumming. His talent is without question.

Some more listens and the more I'm impressed with this album. I'm inclined now to think it is a step forward from Retribution - despite being less brutal than that album, this has more variety, more maturity and the sound is great, especially the vocals.

I think the vocals ruin this album, they get off on a cool lead, with brian belting it out, and then it all dies for a shitty clean chorus.

Ok, after listening to it more I admit there are only some 'Deathcore' moments, but it's still a pile of crap. Ouch, right in the childhood too

Deathcore? There aren't nearly enough breakdowns here, or death metal elements in general, for this to be considered deathcore. Just a thrashy version of Killswitch Engage, at times similar to Chimaira.

Wow, you really need to check out what the difference between Deathcore, and Metalcore is. This IS Metalcore, not deathcore. Deathcore would have more breakdowns, and just be generally heavier.

I wasn't going to say anything, but that statement was too out their to ignore.

Why always take shit I say out of context? I said it had Deathcore-ish moments, this band is obviously still Metalcore, the only Metalcore band I ever liked. Seriosuly, they used to be so fucking good. Oh and your name is awesome.

Well, Thanks

I LOVE The Art Of Balance, and this is... Okay I guess, but it doesn't have any DxCx moments.

I wish they would have stayed the course, Retribution was really good, this is all core and no thrash.

Ok, now they're Thrash as well? It admit at times the vocals used to sound like that, which probably was why I liked them. In albums like AOB they sounded unique, they stood out, and most importantly the clean vocals weren't whiny, and Brian shouted instead of screaming (not that he screams now). But on this album his clean vocals are unbearable

Ok, now they're Thrash as well?

They've always had thrash leanings, much like Trivium. Willy's comment about there not being any thrash is definitely exaggerated - a majority of the riffing is thrash-based while the primary -core elements are in the vocals and melodies.

I never sensed that on their first album, or really much from Retribution either.

I also think Jason Bittner's drumming on this album has thrash elements to it, i.e. fast double-bass, cymbal chokes etc.
