Now, I'm going to ask you to remove all the sharp objects from around your house, because folks... this shit's deep.
I will start of by stating my favourite part of this album: David Gold. Essentially he is Woods Of Ypres. He is the main composer and, well, I am 100% fine with that. I would probably like it a little bit less if I found out that he didn't write the lyrics or the music, as his music is amazing; from the bass to the vocals, there is not one imperfection.
The guitar in this album fits perfectly with David's voice, the slow chugging and David's voice will make you want to pull the trigger. They add a few solos in as well, which completes the album's guitar work. Bryan Belleau has the amount of talent to make it all happen. The guitar work is purely stunning. The drums are also very well done; most of the time they are slow, which suits the sound perfectly. They change it up throughout each song to make it different. The drums blend well with the guitars, making the instruments in this album perfect.
Now to my favourite part: David. David was a music god, who was very underrated in metal. He made his music from a deep place inside of him - his lyrics were especially dark, but sound so soft. I would like to share a piece of the lyrical content of this album:
...by the time you read this, I will already be gone / do not reply to this, but realize what you have done / by the time you read this, it will already be true / do not reply to this, but realize what you made me do...

This is my favourite part of the entire album, it showcases what an amazing musician David was, and at this point the music is perfect. The guitars and drums all fit amazingly with the vocals and lyrics. It is musical perfection. I also respect how much he dedicated himself to his music. This is why I listen to this band, and why I'm going to miss David; I listen to see what was going on inside David's head, what thoughts and ideas were roaming around in there. He put his heart and soul into his music, and it showed.
Overall, there is only one this I can say about this album... buy it! It's that simple. And I guarantee you won't be disappointed. Not one of the 16 tracks is even remotely close to bad.

This is a tad fanboyish but obviously you identified with the music on a personal level and sometimes you can't help but get a little emotional. Just look at my WoD and Deafheaven reviews.

I thought about writing this album a review as well, but I'm way too attached to give a unbiased look (like... at all) Seriously fucking great album, massive with diversity, the entire album feels like a journey. Completely honest album, no bullshit attached, he's giving it all lyrically and sonically. There's something that has been bothering me for a long time, I've read reviews from all around the web and I've seen the album get a lot of criticism for the lyrics, thing is though... the lyrics are honest and understandable, they are not cryptic black metal bullshit (no offence to anyone). I also love how the music and the story/lyrics adapt to eachother (Usage of different vocal styes, change of the music intensity/speed/heaviness etc) Kudos to David Gold for just doing what he felt like doing, melding different styles and having balls to write personal. WoY also went independent for 9 years, and released this beast of an album independent... I just think thats awesome.

Hmmm... I've just been getting into these guys. I really like Pursuit Of The Sun & Allure Of The Earth, so I'll definitely give this a listen when I get the chance. Nice review, I can see you really connected with the music.
