Got it yesterday at their Utrecht gig. ONce again good album. But this band should be undergone live. They are sooooo much stronger live it isn't even funny. By far one of the best gigs I saw this year. The intensity is just unbelievable.

Was really glad Roadburn's Wakter was dj for the night because he played some great mellow chilled out tunes right after the gig to get everyone down to earth again at 2 a.m.

Nice! Marcel listening to post metal! You are lucky to see them! How long did they play for?

I love how raw, straightforward and crushing this album is. It grabs my attention without the meandering boring songwriting approach that often comes with the Post/Sludge tag.

Ok, I have listened to this 4 times now. A quick thought or two: the album is really short and the heavy parts of the songs are really HEAVY. Isn't it ironic that Amenra just signed to Neorot Records, they get the guy that produced Neurosis latest release and Scott Kelly even sings on one of the songs yet this album blows away anything by Neurosis ever!

It could have been ironic indeed... If it was true that is. Still pretty great music though, easily one of the best of the more recent post-metal bands.

IMO there are loads of far superior post bands... I couldn't get in to this, and the vocals are pretty annoying.

Bummer. This is unfiltered post /sludge at it's finest. Not complicated, just straight forward, kick you in the teeth, massive walls of sounds. Sometimes my post metal doesn't have to been so multi-layered like Isis, Col and Rosetta. Sometimes I want the basics.

Wouldn't call it all that basic to be honest. Sure, it ain't like COL but that's like saying boiling water isn't hot just because there's lava.
There's quite a big ritualistic and dark feeling about this band in particular instead of the regular "just crushing" sounds you get from post metal 101, I really enjoy it.

I guess that's where it fails for me. I really love post metal, probably my favorite genre, but I don't like this straight-forward kind. When I want this kind of crushing, I'd listen to Monolithe.

Anhyone of those whining here should see AmeRa live and they will be blown away, also Teamster by the war even though he likes them on album. Rod (Mr. Doctor has seen them live as well) and know what I am talking about. Live they are just so so so so much better than on album

By the war!
But yeah... Live they are absolutely amazing. Pretty intense shit although I gotta admit I'd like to see them again asap because I did fall asleep in the middle of their set and woke up with probably 15 mins left to watch. I probably saw 1/3 or 1/2 of their set. Was hella tired at the end of that day. I'm pretty sure my sis slept all the way through. But in anyways, I agree. I really enjoy them on album but live they are something special indeed.

Give it another spin, this time blast it thru some home stereo system speakers Have you listened to their earlier stuff too?

That ending though.... Damn. Soulcrushing is an understatement.
Also, great cameo by Scott Kelly.

That would be a great topic... "best enders to songs" or something like that. I could name a bunch. One of my favorites:

Rosetta - The Galilean Satellites, last track, the last 5 minutes of "Au Pays Natal/Sol"...blows me away. So fucking heavy...

I'm pretty damn sure there's already a few lists for closers (there's also for openers). There are basically lists for everything here.

I'm not talking closing songs on an album, I am talking closing moments for particular songs. Is that what you meant?

I really like the forlorn atmosphere on this album. The vocals just fit the mood perfectly. Colin van Eeckhout does a great job as always, be it his shrieking or his spoken word passages.

I think this is my first time properly listening to Amenra. Mass III has been on my checklist for a while, but I never got around to it, I think. Now, after the notification from Neurot Recordings that Mass V is "name your price" on Bandcamp, I decided to check them out. And it's great! I really like the atmosphere, the crushing riffs, the shrieking vocals.

Post/Sludge experts out there, any recommendations for something similar?

Back then, it was in my wishlist as well. I checked out immediately after I was once heavily rotating Neurosis. This came after Teamster hyped here, and upon checking...it was really fucking heavy. I visited earlier albums and it was all glorious records. Good to see you had a great time.
