So, the Faroese Vikings are docking again on our shores. In the last years, their raids have become slightly less exciting, more easily predictable and pretty much similar from one to the other. Did the Valkyries bring a breath of fresh air?

Can't claim to be all that fussed by the original songs, or at least the 3 or 4 I checked out, but the covers, especially Where Eagles Dare, are very good; the main guy has a cracking voice for this kinda thing and really shows it off on the covers

I'm the biggest Tyr fan. But i don't like the direction theyre going. Honestly i don't see how Metalstorm still classes them as "Folk Metal". Their album Land, was almost completely progressive. From Valkyria, i really enjoy Hel Hath no Fury, Nation, Cemetery Gates and Another Fallen Brother. I'm still a fan after hearing this album, but it was, for me the biggest letdown of the year. Even though i couldn't expect much after seeing the direction they were going with The Lay of Thrym. Also being the first album without Kari, you just know that it won't hold up to the others. I'm still hopeful though, for the next Heljareyga album

Definitely the weaker one of their discography. Still a great album.

Listened to this for the first time in about a decade and it's worse than I remember.
This album was clearly slapped together with hardly any passion or innovation which is especially evident from the pathetic songwriting and lyrics. No wonder it took them so long to make another one after this. Tracks 1, 4, and 7 are sort of ok but they are also sterile and hollow like the rest. The cover songs are decent but make it more apparent that the band had talent but no good ideas. It's debatable if Týr ever recovered after this, I'd say not really. Time to forget about this album for another decade.

Dropped my 4 to a 3.
