Vectom was a German band of Speed Metal. You know like me that a lot of bands were created and died quickly during the 80's, and it was a bit the same with the career of Vectom which only released two albums "Speed Revolution" in 1985 and "Rules of Mystery" in 1986. This year, StormSpell Records decided to re-release their album on a unique CD under the name of their second album "Rules of Mystery". Maybe that some nostalgic people will find an interest in this release but with a poor production and a lot of repetitive and no so inspirited songs, I didn't find a lot of good things in this release.
The principal problem of this release is that we had already listened to it a dozen of time. It's a pure basic Speed Metal with fast rhythms guitars soli (which aren't extremely good actually) and high and hoarsy vocals. It could be ok but it's extremely repetitive and after ten minutes it's already super boring. This lack of inspiration in the songs is really prejudicial and no, even if I like this old school form of melodic Thrash that we call Speed Metal, I didn't find a lot of pleasure while I was listening to this release. Note however that it's not extremely horrible, it's just really repetitive and no so inspired?
The production is also a bit average (but better on the ten last songs), it was frequently the problem of the records during the 80's so evidently it doesn't help a lot, though it's a good thing that the label released these two albums under a unique one. At least the fans will be able to find them.
"Rules Of Mystery" is something for the true fans of Speed Metal. If you're looking for all the stuff which were released during the 80's of course you'll have to find this album, but if you want some good Speed Metal, I think that you'll be able to find easily some better releases (just have a look in the classic of the genre). "Rules Of Mystery" is only for extreme die-hard fans of the German Speed Metal scene the others can pass their way...
