Just lie back and feel yourself decay. Gaze helplessly, thoughtlessly, as the preternaturally odious head of Cthulhu crests over the horizon, blotting out the last scarlet gasps of a moribund sunset, looming over the eerily tranquil and temperate ocean like an antediluvian menhir - massive, silent, mysterious, and unspeakable. As the album tumbles funereally along like boulders being rolled along the muddy underbelly of a tepid river, you may feel your atoms slowly deconstructing one particle at a time.

I'm in need for some proper Funeral Doom and Profetus always deliver.

Supposedly the album is less than 40 minutes long, so it'll be a quick ride.

Even though the label Svart calls it a full length at 36 minutes the band themselves calls it an e.p.

Goddamn this band is consistent. Nothing groundbreaking nor unbelievable, but definitely a fucking great album/e.p (whichever you regard it as). Much more accessible than the last two albums, with some more hopeful sounds melodies (particularly the beginning of A Reverie and around the 3:10 mark in Dead Are Our Leaves of Autumn). Very satisfying record. It's streaming on their bandcamp for those who want to give it a whirl

and around the 3:10 mark in Dead Are Our Leaves of Autumn).

That's where Justin Hartwig of Mournful Congregation's guest guitar playing kicks in

That makes perfect sense then, as Mournful Congregation have always been a more melodic band. Very interesting to note, thanks for pointing that out

I love how utterly consistent Profetus are. Everything they release is complete rock solid awesomeness. This may be my favorite of their's, but it's hard to pick as each album is great...

Pretty much. If you like one Profetus album you'll like 'em all.

I guess the same could be said for if you don't like a Profetus album, but that also means you're dumb so who cares.

Yet you gave it an 8.

I really like this one as well. At this point my rating isn't set though. As usual it needs more spins.

8 is a very high score, especially as it can be rounded up to 8.49.

True, but if an 8 equals "complete rock solid awesomeness" then I wonder what the equivalent of a 10 is.

Complete awesomeness I would imagine

Something worthy of pure genius has never been described as "rock solid" though I admit I don't usually see the word "awesomeness" beside it either.

Yes. I did give it an 8. Because it's awesome. I'm confused by your statement.

To me an 8 equals "great", not "complete rock solid awesomeness". An album that I would describe in such a way would certainly be worthy of at least a 9 and probably even higher. For me that's a significant difference.

Well that's just a difference of interpretation. To me, something can be "rock solid awesomeness" without being fantastic in every regard. This album lacks innovation, and at times feels like it is repeating itself, not that I don't enjoy it, it just isn't earth shattering, so it gets an 8. 8 is a very high ranking for an album to get on quite literally every music-critique website.

I often see you questioning people's ratings in general. And as for Alex's I don't remember now, but I must have posted this after seeing you doing that in another thread,
wouldn't be able to tell you which now.

Fair enough. And yes, this album definitely lacks innovation, but it's still very good funeral doom.

I seem to be the only one who thinks this album is really lacklustre compared to the previous outings. There are a few good moments, but the emotional intensity which made "... to Open..." a brilliant album is missing.

That's interesting. I actually find this one to be their most emotional output to date. The others were much more bleak, desolate, and therefore (at least for me) not quite as emotional as "As All Seasons Die". This one feels more melancholic and at times depressive, which evokes a much greater emotional response from me than an album with a more stark/bleak atmosphere. I guess that just shows that no album can be objectively classified as more emotional than another.
