Yeah this one got a shit reputation and it deserves it. Everything from the cover to the production to the singer is absolutely awful. And what about the songwriting? Yeah it's equally bad. It's for most part very groove metal influenced heavy metal with some US-power metal stuff here and there. The album is nearly a hour long and nearly all songs sounds very alike so you never know which song you are listening to, it's really a catastrophic mess. The worst part (besides the annoying guitar tone) is the singer. They didn't manage to get (or wanted?) Harry Conklin so instead they got a shitty Phil Anselmo copycat who also manages to pronounce words in that incredible silly Hetfield way (ex. intense-AH). I'll give it a 2 because there are actually worse stuff out there, and there are a few good parts scattered here and there throughout the album. Thank god they got hold of the Tyrant for their third album and continued what they started on Ample Destruction.
