This is basically Girlschool at their most average, and what the band played on those first few great albums wasn't particularly special either (just really solid and well performed), so Play Dirty as a whole simply seems like a bit of a rehash of all the band's flaws. The 80s glam influence is undeniable (particular in regards to the production), but there are some good moments here, notably 'Breaking All the Rules' and the heavier riff moments of 'Burning in the Heat'. Aside from that, this represents the band going through the motions.
