The new song seems to explore some new sounds for the band and Che's review indicates the same thing so it might be worth a shot. Is there anything specific you didn't like about them?

It sounds a lot more black metal than their previous stuff.

Of which nothing I've heard. This would probably be my gateway album to them, don't disappoint me guys.

Heard the whole thing and I'm disappointed. Was hoping for more black metal in it The track shared by Joe is by far the highlight of the album.

But, all things considered... Urfaust were never really that "black metal" to begin with, at least not in the traditional understanding. The speed and blast beats on that track are a real rarity for the band. The rest of the album is more in line with what they typically do, albeit a lot more droney and repetitive

Yeah, I know. This track just gave me a false picture of what to expect. That's why I feel disappointed. Not because the music is bad.

Well I only listened to their first album (geist ist teufel I think) but it didnt reasonate with me at all. I always waited for something big to come but the result was boring in the end. I could appreciate the influences from other music styles but I think it wasnt executed really well, that is that the production was bad and the vocals rather annoying. Maybe this album will be more to my teste, so I will probably give it a shot. Thanks for the heads -up!
Their first album definitely has the worst production and vocals out of the first three full-lengths. I like the debut but I definitely think they improved over the years, so it might be worth listening to their more recent material. Der Freiwillige Bettler and the live album Trúbadóirí Ólta An Diabhail are my favorites but Verräterischer, Nichtswürdiger Geist is great too. The latter just has some balancing issues; they go from their trademark 'black metal' sound to neoclassical ambient but the two don't really compliment each other and it ruins the flow of the album.

Seems that I should give their other material a listen then. Neoclassical ambient sounds like an awesome mix but too bad to hear that it ruins the flow. I'm definitely curious about it though, so thanks for the rec!
The live album is probably my fave all time live album if that sells it in any way =P

If that is the case then I wont listen to it soon But nah, generally I'm not that much into live albums as I find that the sound quality is rather weak most of the time. Maybe I've just experienced the bad examples though, but to this day I honestly havent heard a live album which I truly liked
I'm the same in 99% of the cases; I don't see the point of them. I think this one and some Sunn O))) ones are the only ones I truly liked. For some reason Urfaust just sounded better live than on record.

I'm a fan of live albums, but there aren't a lot of modern bands that pull it off all that well if you ask me. For some older bands their best works were live albums. AC/DC and Motörhead come to mind.

You should definitely check Urfaust live album. If you had problems with the production on the debut then let me tell you that the live album is better produced that most black metal full lengths tbh. Perfectly clear and atmospheric sound and at times it captures Urfaust brilliance and hypnotic touch more than their regular albums.

This might be their most consistent work to date. There is everything you might expect or want from an Urfaust album.
Glorious keys on II (best use in metal history since the Einsedler EP), V which is closer to older material and total Burzumish vibe, the quasi-throat-singing parts on I & III, the typical doom on III & IV and that godly ritualistic closer.

This is my first experience with Urfaust, I'm not disappointed. I'll have to check the rest of their albums.

Wow, this is exactly what I like! If anyone has some similar albums to recommend, I'd take it. It makes me think of Schammasch's Triangle or Blut Aus Nord's 777 - Cosmosophy.
