Both versions are correct. According to that interview (posted by @cobrapel): his father is from Switzerland and mother is an American.

Pretty sure I'm in love with this guy. All of the interviews I've read make him seem like he's just the coolest damn person in the world. Also, I really like this video. Didn't expect him to get big enough to start putting out stuff like this.
