This band from Brazil are another of my all time favourites.... This is for many reasons, one of them being the anti-society lyrics that they incorporate into their music... The new album is surprisigly very good, which makes a change from the last few albums beforehand, which IMO have been far below average...

What does everyone else think?

I was just about to create this thread! Amazing band. I love the themes brought up in their lyrics, not to mention that they always have great cover art IMO. The new album is, indeed great. I loved Roots, Bloody Roots with Pavarotti. I also love their fast pace drumming especially on the intro of Territory.

Definantly one of my top 2 favorite bands, they are so amazing, and even without Max, they still show they are great on Dante XXI.

I hate everything they have ever released after Arise, but I consider their first 4 albums to be masterpieces, and probably the best thrash ever recorded.

Schizophrenia is my all-time favourite thrash album. The drums are amazing, Max Cavalera's vocals sound at their best era, the guitars sound raw, and the riffs are as perfect as it can get. Morbid Visions has a bit of that oldschool BM sound that was popular in those years in south america (maybe because Wagner Antichrist was in the band). Beneath The Remains was the first metal album I've bought. I remember not enjoying it too much at first, but later on, when I got into thrash, I gave it another listen and I was immidiately hooked. Arise is my least favourite of the four, but it's still a great one. Just not as good as the other ones.

Sorry... but that Roots Bloody Roots with Pavarotti is a fake song by some band from Germany (I think)... that guy singing there is not Pavarotti and this is not true Sepultura I'm afraid but anyway... they did a great job doing this!

And Dante XXI is the best Sepultura album since Chaos A.D.!! 9,5/10 is my rating Anyone of you guys seen that video for Convicted In Life? Really really awesome!

I love their new album Dante XXI. And they are even better live. It was such a feeling in the show. Igor was not the drummer in the show but it was still the best drums i have ever heard. And Igor is said to be even better! Their intro Dark Wood Of Error was pure magic to see live.

I think people should be open minded and don't compare old and new sepultura...and don't say the same things over and over again... forget about Max-era and try to listen to Sepultura like it was a new band... Dante XXI is really good record and all we hear is the same crap "eee they were better with max" ,"after max left they started to play hardcore" blah blah blah Sepultura wasn't just one person... even without Max they can create good music (Dante is a good example) and Derrick is doing great job!

I think Igor is one of the best drummers around, bar none. I also belive they should have broken up after Max left the band or at least change the name of the group. This is not Sepultura in my mind. Sure you say Derrick is doing a great job and I agree, but it is not the same band.

No, it doesnt sound at all the same... Its very hard to compare Beneath The Remains to for exmaple, Roorback, however, Derrik Green has done a pretty decent job, especially on the last album..

Ahh Sepultura. My favourite band. I can't even pinpoint why that is - their music just resonates with me, I suppose.

Of course Sepultura arent the same band today than they were in 1996. Of course, the 1996 Sepultura didn't sound like the 1994 Sepultura, who didn't sound like the 1991 Sepultura, who didn't sound like the Sepultura of 1987 - an aspect I like about the band.

Now I'm not going to say that Derrick-era Sepultura is as good as the late-Max-era, because that would be a lie (aside from their latest album). Ignoring the singer, however, the band actually did not change much between Roots and Against, and I presume that the very dramatic change in singing style put quite a few people off (which is a very legitimate reason for disliking Derrick-era Sep).

I myself did not like Derrick's style initially - however, it eventually grew on me. Now I probably listen to Bestial Devistation just as often as I listen to, say, Roorback.

I'm a big fan of Sepultura during Max-era (yes, I even like "Roots" ), but I had always found their post-Max material really disappointing. Until Dante XXI!! This new album isn't another thrash masterpiece like "Schizophrenia" but it's listenable (and you can't compare their old and new stuff anyway :)

Yeh, true... Dante XXI is not a masterpiece.... however, it is the best post-Max album... And because they have changed so much, styles are different between now and Max era, it is harder to compare...

I have Morbid Visions/Bestial Devastation and Beneath The Remains. I like all of those, though I prefer the former. I think I might get Dante sometime, since I've heard good things about it.

I've heard one song from Dante, and it is very different, but I enjoy parts of it. Come to think of it, I also hear some bad things about it, so I dunno. Thanks for the warning

I'm obsessed by Dante XXI, one of the best Hardcore Metal albums ever... it's strong as hell, crunchy, heavy, with good melodic elements and an awesome concept... it will surely be among my 2006 top 10... I would had neve expect them to release such a good album, although I like everything they had made after Roots.

I don't have a problem with Derrick. I saw them live a few months back and he is great live. And like Southern Wind, I rather like Dante XXI. It's not Beneath the Remains or Arise, it's a new kind of Sepultura and it works.

For me Sepultura doesn't go beyond Morbid Visions and Bestial Devastation...I never got into anything after that, before or after Max left. I know there's no hope for post-Max stuff but maybe I should give more of their older material a try again
But Morbid Visions and Bestial Devastation are both awesome

Very good stuff, gold if I might say. The Max years deserve to be on the hall of fame of metal, if it isn't the hall of fame itself. Those records changed the face of music, and changed a lot of people. It changed me, I know it. I admit though, that I hated Roots, but what was before that, was awsome. Derek's stuff isn't so bad. I don't like it, but Nation was a decent album, and I really liked Dante XXI, his best album so far
