This band from Brazil are another of my all time favourites.... This is for many reasons, one of them being the anti-society lyrics that they incorporate into their music... The new album is surprisigly very good, which makes a change from the last few albums beforehand, which IMO have been far below average...

What does everyone else think?

love the band .. but to me they've done 2 good albums ... chaos ad , a true master peice and roots, another amazing album . the thing i like abt them is they got the massess moving and headbanging .. the tribal beats of igor cavalera and ofcourse their lyrics .. which were against corrupt governments and most of the songs have a social message in them. thts something i really like .. its revolution with music

I really like they earlier works of this band when Max was with them. They're later stuff has change a bit and Derrick is sure no Max with the lyrics, although I enjoy the political and socail messanges that Max put in and i dont think many other people could do the same (imo). I dont mind Derrick, i just prefer the 'Max days' of the band.

Selultura albums I have:
"Bestial Devistation EP / Morbid Visions" "Schitzaphenia" <-- cant spell it, plus i lost it , "Arise" "Chaos A.D" "Roots" "Nation"
I love the earlier works of the band on the 'Bestial Devistation" EP and "Morbid Visions", i enjoy the death style with the heavy thrash influences. Hmm then agan now i think about it, i like most of their work.

I love Sepultura, they were amazing when I saw them live. Igor Cavalera is without doubt my favourite drummer, his work on "Dark Wood of Error" is the best I've ever heard with drums!

I'm really glad that he left. This means, that Sepultura is really dead, and even the memebers see this (Max, now Igor). It would be a nice thing, if he joined Soulfly...

I agree with Damnated. Sepultura's been crap for quite some time now and it looks like this is the final nail in the coffin. Unless they make some miraculous comeback with new members or something, RIP Sepultura! I'll still be enjoying your first 2 albums

I just can't belive that he left the band!! He is my favorite drummer and now he no longer play in one of my favorite bands! Sepultura is dead, Igor Cavalera leaving Sepultura ... that is just like if Lars Ulrich would leave Metallica. There can be no Metallica without Ulrich and there is no Sepultura without Igor. Maybe they'll keep doing good albums ... but the soul is gone

Actually, I think Lars leaving Metallica might be better for them.

Well guys, don't forget about Paulo Jr. and Andreas Kisser. Paulo has been there since the beginning and Andreas since 'Schizophrenia.' However I am still not sure why or how Sepultura took the turn they did. It's not like it's totally terrible, because it isn't. The Derrik Green years have been okay, at least what I have heard, but it is indeed true they won't ever match up to Max's years. I suppose it's just natural evolution. You can not stop that.

When Max Cavalera left the band, there were two possible paths left: 1) that they become a pathetic copy of themselves and 2) that they evolve into a totally new different concept due to the different conditions... I'm glad they took the second option, as the Hardcore-Metal era of Sepultura is just outstanding.

Sepultura is probably my favorite Brazilian band (Krisiun is right behind them though). Everything that Max did with Sepultura was fuckin' amazing. I love his work on "Beneath The Remains." Such a bad ass album. Yeah it sucks that both Cavalera's left Sepultura now, But maybe they might make some good albums ya never know.

I've always thought that Chaos AD should have been the beginning of Soulfly instead. Or even better, they shouldn't have released that shit and they should have made a thrash album.

Anyways, I can't decide on which album is my favorite. It's probably between Schizophrenia and Beneath the Remains. They're both amazing.

I actually really like Sepultura's post-thrash album, with Territory being one of my favourite Sep songs.

I also really appreciated Roots for being something very different from the norm...

... of course, I still say that Bestial Devistation is their best album - largely for their pure, rough, gritty, messy death metal.

I've recently became obsessed with Dante XXI... It's weird because the first time I listened to the album I found it okay, not too bad but not too good either, and I've been playing it over and over again the whole week... Anyway there is some musical quality you can't deny, not some great thrash but we've agreed before that their old and current material couldn't be compared. "Dark Wood of Error" is a great track IMO.

Regarding their older stuff, my favourite must be Schizophrenia, a thrash masterpiece, and I agree with LethargyMan about Roots and I appreciate it for the same reasons.

Now about Igor leaving the band... I'm quite sad because he was a symbol of the identity of Sepultura. Okay, Paulo Jr. and Andreas Kisser are still there, and their identity has kept evolving over the past years, but it's like losing a fragment of their soul IMO... Maybe you think it's a over-statement but that's the way I feel about it. And you can't deny he was a pretty good drummer (again, listen to "Dark Wood of Error" if you're not convinced that he still has talent!).
And I disagree, Soulfly is NOT Sepultura IMO, even if Igor may join the band. Soulfly indeed have Max's spirit, but definitely haven't Sepultura's early sound!! (well, Dark Ages, their latest release, does have some thrash and death influences, but tthat doesn't make it a Sepultura album!)

Dante XXI is excellent. I never was a huge Sepultura fan, but didn't like their previous works really - they were simply boring and uncreative. It wasn't the matter of Mr. Green, whom I consider to be an excellent vocalist, but simply put - songwriting. It seems that the guys weren't able to put together any decent riffs. Dante XXI changed that and it ok.
