As stated by John Steinbeck in The Winter Of Our Discontent, "It’s so much darker when a light goes out than it would have been if it had never shone", and this is true for Cistvaen; here, they offer atmospheric black in the darkest of forms with At Light's Demise.

What a wonderful album, I was kinda expecting something dark and grim and a bit more blackened, but this is so beautifully melancholic. It's like a combo of DSBM and death doom rather than atmospheric black imo, the guitar work is mesmerizing, there's so many beautiful melodies, and it's such an incredibly passionate performance.

Edit: This is officially my first 9 rated album this year, one hell of a release!

I do hear doomy passages (more in the earlier parts of some songs), but it is perhaps more so atmo-black/blackgaze to my ears, particularly in the latter stages of the songs that have a lot of dainty tremolo melodies. Still, having those extra doomy elements do add a certain something to it compared with more straight atmo-black

Been a long time since I had a goosebumpy "oh why'd you do that" moment in a song... the build-up and eventual explosion in The Epitaph does that. I was listening to it in the office and it caught me off guard.

I keep listening to that song over and over again so haven't really finished the album yet, but i'm loving what i've heard so far.

This album feels so good to listen to because of these great musical decisions they took where they stop the song in the middle and then start again slowly and build up to a crescendo. A lot of bands do that but Cistvaen had picked it up really well.
